Site Safety and Health Officer (Contingency Hire)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: The Site Safety and Health Officer’s (SSHO) primary duty and responsibility is to prepare and enforce the KBR’s safety program for the contract. The SSHO shall meet the requirements of EM 385-1-1 Section 1 and ensure that the requirements of 29 CFR 1926.16 are met for KBR’s requirements. The SSHO or an equally-qualified Designated Representative/alternate shall be on-site at all times when work is being performed to implement and administer the KBR's safety program and government-accepted Accident Prevention Plan. The role of the SSHO is the proactive identification of existing and predictable hazards in the working environment or working conditions that are dangerous to personnel and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / ABILITIES:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Engineering (any field), Industrial Hygiene, Health Physics, Fire Prevention or other related scientific fields, based on a four year course of study from a U.S. or U.K. accredited college or university or equivalent institution. In addition to the formal education requirement, successful completion of the OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent within the last five years and an average of at least 24 hours of safety training per year for the past five years.
CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through the Board of certified Safety Professionals. Lso certified on for lead abatement, asbestos abatement, confined space entry and respiratory protection.
EXPERIENCE; The Energy Manager shall have at least five (5) years’ of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity. Further experience includes being trained and qualified to conduct Mishap Investigations per OPNAV 5100.23 series or equivalent methodology.
ABILITIES: The SSHO shall maintain competency IAW EM385-1-1 requirements. Furthermore the candidate must be a self-starter capable of working in a fast paced multi-discipline team environment with the ability to manage competing priorities to achieve team goals.
Proven management skills to include effective planning, organizing, directing and controlling with strong decision making capabilities. Excellent analytical skills – data driven, fact based, root cause focused. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to lead a team to consensus.
Understanding of litigation and claims processes and experience with legal communities.
Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and listening.
Ability to interact with staff at all levels from craftpersons to senior executives.
Knowledge base to successfully diagnosis issues that cover multiple areas of interaction..
Fluent in English language
Must possess passport book (not passport card) with at least 12 months of remaining validity AND with at least 6 blank visa/stamp pages remaining
Must possess driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity
