About the Position:

National Grid US Information Services is creating a new team to provide an outlet for our business ambitions and requirements to innovate with new technology. The team will be responsible for:
Idea Creation – This can be via various methods i.e. crowd sourcing and innovation workshops.
Experimentation – Co-creating with existing software and hardware to provide new and innovative approaches to business problems. Creating new partnerships with vendors to try new approaches.
Productionize – Where suitable, hands on developers will provide agile and speedier delivery.
The teams focus is providing hands on approach to technology with the end users and for them to feel like the “Architect” of the design. This role will provide development and support for the end users whilst looking to push the boundaries to ultimate create greater value. We are adopting an approach where we “start small, think big but fail fast/forward” to allow us to try and experiment with new technologies.
Bleeding edge development practices in a highly agile, startup-like environment. You will be part of a highly motivated team with a casual working style. We are looking for a software developer who has confidence to design and code for the latest technologies, including Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Drones, IoT, and wearable technology.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Carry out research and analysis on emerging technologies and consumer electronic products
Work closely with developers, project managers and business users to identify requirements
Prepare and present your proposed approach
Develop and test prototypes
Present solution to team and clients for verification and integration into a production environment
Qualifications
Knowledge & Experience Required:
A successful candidate will have an established background in developing software for consumer-facing products, excellent analytical skills, a strong technical ability, great communication skills, a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment, and a passion for technology.

Degree qualified with a 2:1 or above in a relevant degree Computer Science, Mathematics or related degree
Experience develop in at least one of the following: C#, C++, Java, Python, Javascript
Understanding in relational and non-relational database technologies
Research driven
Ability to gather requirements from business users
Experience influencing software engineers best practices and coding standards
Technical experience as a software developer in a product development environment
Strong knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle
Experience in source control management, build processes and testing
Knowledge of front-end development using HTML and CSS
Experience in developing native, or cross-platform mobile applications
Experience with UX/UI design principles
Knowledge and hands-on experience with agile practices, including SCRUM
