Job Summary The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing and directing the engineering activities of the assigned function or department within the organization. The Engineering Manager will oversee the work of approximately 15 full and part time employees providing engineering support services, including design, analysis, troubleshooting, and testing for aircraft, payload, and support equipment development, repairs, and upgrades. The Engineer Manager will work with government engineers as required to support mission requirements. Engineering support will cover both public use and FAA certificated aircraft to maximize aircraft or equipment availability. Example engineering support services include: 1) Aircraft maintenance support 2) Aircraft sustainment (e.g. locating supportable parts or generating repair procedures) 3) Aircraft upgrades 4) Aircraft troubleshooting 5) Aircraft ground and flight testing 6) Maintenance directive review and evaluations 7) Ground support equipment design, troubleshooting, and testing 8) Payload integration and testing 9) Payload shipping fixture design 10) Technical specifications and supporting documentation for procurements 11) Technical interface with other Government agencies and commercial companies The Engineer Manager must demonstrate:
Experience leading a diversified team of engineers in an aerospace engineering environment.
Experience leading the design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and fabrication of aircraft components and systems.
The proven ability to manage and implement computer aided design processes (AutoCAD and Pro/Engineer preferred).
Strong interpersonal and team building skills with a proven ability to attract, hire, and motivate a strong engineering team.
A proven track record of completing projects on schedule, within budget, with satisfied customers.
Performs engineering calculations, investigations and tasks as assigned.
Prepares reports, graphs, planning layouts, and summaries designed to communicate project progress or results.
Responsible for all phases of assigned standard engineering projects.
Ensures the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost.
Prepares or secures and reviews cost estimates, compiles required cost and equipment information, and writes appropriation requests.
Originates formal project requests.
Investigates problems and requirements of projects, and develops plans for solutions in line with economic, personnel, and environmental considerations
Effectively integrates multiple engineering disciplines, such as but not limited to mechanical, electrical, structural, software, and/or aerospace.
Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures
Develops and conducts work programs in accordance with company's policies, priorities and budget constraints
Develops and communicates business unit’s engineering policies and standards, ensuring the technological advancements support the business plans of the company.
Supervises the preparation of engineering studies drawings and calculations.
Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demands to plan projects.
Confers with management and production to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demands.
Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
Directs personnel activities of department, such as recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations, and salary adjustments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated proficiency with CAD software.
Strong mechanical aptitude in order to offer technical direction in all engineering areas.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Project management skills and the ability to prioritize workload of subordinates to align with company initiatives.
Ability to determine aircraft air worthiness and make final recommendations leading to such certification.
Ability to improve efficiency and reduce costs, must be able to lead team activities aimed at reducing recurring expenses and simplifying system maintenance.
Ability to pro-actively identify upcoming areas of concern, determine acceptable inspection criteria, develop appropriate testing procedures, and support testing to identify and mitigate structural fatigue issues.
Proactively develop the expected procedures for inspections and probable repair actions.
Ability to conduct investigations and produce resultant causal determination, repair requirements, and oversee safe retum to service.
Advanced knowledge in the practical application of engineering principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment.
Ability to make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
Ten (10) plus years of aerospace industry experience in a key leadership role and project management. Masters degree preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work is in normal office environment.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
