Reports to
Manager of Civil Engineering
Job Purpose
To provide Civil Engineering expertise to projects requiring civil and structural engineering design and analysis services. Primary responsibility is for performing engineering for modifications and additions to existing steam electric and gas turbine generating stations.
Key Accountabilities
Prepare calculations for structures and their foundations in accordance with latest codes and industry standards.
Prepare construction drawings as required on AutoCad
Make field visits as required and resolve field problems.
Prepare scope documents, specifications, cost estimates, budgets, sanction documents, schedules and purchase requisitions.
Evaluate soil borings and soils reports. Determine load bearing and settlement parameters for foundation designs if appropriate.
Check the work of other engineers and designers.
Participate in project meetings.
Prepare contract documents and bid packages for obtaining qualified contractors, evaluate contractor proposals and participate in bid process meetings.
Prepare inspection reports of facilities regarding safety, repair and modifications with recommendations.
Participate in site investigations, witness and perform key inspections during course of construction
Must have good verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge and use of structural analysis programs such as STAAD.
Competent in engineering and design applications (Autocad)
Knowledge & Experience Required:
2 to 10 years civil engineering or related experience, including structural steel (AISC Steel Construction Manual), concrete design (ACI 318 code), wood design (American Wood Council - National Design Specification for Wood Construction), engineering analysis, foundation design, being familiar with computer aided design (IE: Auto Cad) and specification writing is required for this position.
A Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering plus a minimum of 2 years of experiance. Masters degree in Civil Engineering preferred. NYS PE license, PE EIT certificate preferred or ability to obtain NYS PE license.
Interacts with plant managements, other Company departments, peers, union personnel and contractors.
