Job Summary: The Associate Product & Development Chef will provide culinary support to the Merchandise Mart including disruptive Innovation, Brand design and marketing.  Key responsibilities will include assisting the innovation team with concept and product development, recipe development supporting marketing strategies, maintaining  the kitchen facility and operations in a proficient highly organized manner, coordinating all product and customer cuttings including technical product reviews and high level social events.  The role will maintain the culinary calendar and be responsible for the overall success and Stewart of the kitchen.


Position Responsibilities


  • Maintain Kitchen operations (sanitation, maintenance, & organization)
  • Coordinate and execute technical cuttings
  • Work with internal and external groups to arrange social and business functions
  • Work with procurement to source new purveyors or specific ingredients to achieve business needs
  • Maintain inventory of ingredients used in the development process
  • Work pro-actively to stage ingredients for upcoming development sessions.
  • Input and maintain formulas on inter-department shared drive
  • Researches and becomes familiar with competitive products, including knowledge around preparation instructions
  • Researches, tests, develops and documents consumer-focused and foodservice recipes according to Recipe Writing Best Practices
  • Inputs consumer-focused recipes into CBORD, the recipe database system and understands nutritional analysis generated by the system
  • Participates in group ideation sessions for innovation and/or base business
  • Performs and attends technical product cuttings
  • Supports strategic Sales and Marketing initiatives, including food styling for consumer research and sales promotion materials
  • Provides base business and innovation retail support
  • Maintains confidential files in SharePoint site



  • Associate degree in related discipline required
  • 2 years basic foodservice experience  
  • Previous positions with direct accountability for purchasing, sanitation and inventory
  • Sound culinary skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Sanitation training and certification
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical and logical problem solving abilities
  • Sound understanding of ordering, inventory and procurement activities
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to travel 10-20% to support operating groups and customer needs


Physical Requirements:

Incumbent must have the ability to effectively perform all of the following physical demands without assistance:

  • Ability to safely and comfortably lift 25 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods of time up to 4 hours
  • Work in a kitchen setting on various surface types.
  • Exposure to microwaves and testing equipment.
