Job Summary

This position requires sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), creating/uploading journal entries, distributing routine financial reports, maintaining/updating monthly accounting schedules, assisting with and/or preparing balance sheet account reconciliations, and assisting with the preparation of audit schedules. This position communicates with various personnel both within Lamb Weston and external customers, especially in Mexico. The consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of this communication are vital and must clearly convey all outstanding issues.


Position Responsibilities

  • Provide support for internal and external financial statements in compliance with GAAP and/or other regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in period-end close activities to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks, including identification and resolution of unusual items and issues in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Create and maintain monthly accounting schedules as support for the balance sheet account reconciliations and financial audits.
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Respond to information requests from external/internal Lamb Weston customers, including requests from external/internal customers in other countries, especially Mexico.
  • Distribute routinely generated financial accounting reports.
  • Perform period-end close activities.
  • Perform general accounting activities in the SAP general ledger, which includes preparing and uploading journal entries, and use of the Comprehensive Accounting Excellence (CAE) tool.
  • Exercise judgment in financial, operational, or transactional analysis to identify and help resolve issues.
  • Prioritize multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Assist with evaluating effectiveness of processes, procedures, and control environment and develop improvements, as needed.
  • Document processes (e.g. desk procedures) and recommend process improvements.
  • Effectively communicate information impacting both internal and external customers.
  • Understand International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other local accounting standards for international entities, especially Mexico, and reconcile with U.S. GAAP.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively work in a team environment both within and outside of assigned area of responsibility.
  • Participate in special projects involving general accounting, such as FASB updates, business partner requests, and systems conversions.


Principal Challenges/Complexity

  • Perform financial close activities; identify and resolve unusual items and issues in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Exercise judgment in financial, operational, or transactional analysis to identify and resolve issues.
  • Handle multiple activities simultaneously and appropriately delegate work to staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Functional involvement in change management is frequent and eminent.
  • Communicate to all impacted parties and maintain a constant flow of critical information with all levels within the organization (CCG, business groups, Corporate, etc.).
  • Alert management of situations that may adversely affect the company’s overall financial condition.
  • Communication with personnel in countries where English is not the primary language, especially Mexico.


Latitude and Dimensions

This position is responsible for the accounting activities in their assigned business areas and balance sheet components. This position will have regular access to confidential financial data.


Position Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in accounting required
  • CPA, CMA certification and/or advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years of business experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, manufacturing, etc.
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and planning skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to research and reconcile multiple accounts with minimal supervision
  • Proficient PC skills with SAP financials experience preferred
