Position: Business Development Manager
Reports to: Director of Business Development
Department: Market Development (Customer Group)
About the Position:
Business Development Managers (BDM) are customer-facing representatives that are focused on the strategic implementation of emerging technologies, new programs and customized energy efficiency solutions as the utility business model evolves. BDMs will focus on increasing company revenues in these areas through strong collaboration with the New Energy Solutions (NES) team and Strategic Sales teams.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Developing new Strategic Energy Management Partnerships (SEMPs) with targeted customers – ideally with potential for multiple products and programs. Working collaboratively on execution of plans with the Strategic Sales teams.
Assisting NES in developing pilots with customers on emerging technologies and new programs and implementing plans to bring to scale.
Developing new off-tariff contracts and regulatory filings that support creative customer solutions.
Developing new Utility Energy Services Contracts (UESC – federal) for EE and new technology opportunities.
Assisting large customers with strategic growth plans by establishing a framework for long-term energy master planning – coordinating with necessary internal departments (e.g. Engineering, Sales, Complex Connections Team, New Energy Solutions, TSES).
Communicating clear expectations and deliverables with customers and internal/external stakeholders to achieve strategic milestones.
Determining the need for changes to regulatory policies, corporate policies and procedures, and IT investment that will better enable the implementation of strategic projects under evolving utility business model.
Following workplace safety requirements and company ethics compliance.
Representing the company in targeted local, regional and/or professional organizations.
Responding in Storm Assignment role during storm events.
Ensuring effective communication and interaction with Sales & Program Operations, New Energy Solutions, Customer Strategy and Jurisdiction teams and other internal stakeholders.
Networking efficiently and effectively to identify and collaborate with new partners with a common vision.
* This is a field-based individual-contributor position. At this time, Business Development Managers would participate in the Company’s Annual Performance Plan (salary plus annual bonus).
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Engineering and/or other related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 7 years related experience desired.
Ability to communicate vision and engage customers and stakeholders in strategic planning activities.
Strong negotiation and leadership skills and the ability to make independent decisions.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills including proposals and presentations.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Ability to effectively manage projects/initiatives through various stages and milestones.
Knowledge of business and computer applications and an understanding of business finance, engineering and technical concepts.
