This position works across the organization to guide through sustainability-related issues and opportunities, directing efforts to improve Conagra’s position relative to competition and external stakeholder expectations. Promotes internal sustainability strategies through effective influencing across the organization, coordinating goal-setting efforts, transparency & reporting activities, education of internal customers and interacting with external stakeholders on key issues.
Identifies and coordinates the development of internal sustainability policies, standards and metrics with appropriate organizational peers to further the sustainability objectives and strategies of the company. Continually assesses ongoing materiality of sustainability opportunity areas within the business needs.
Monitors emerging issues and opportunities related to global sustainability and initiates conversations with business leaders to determine materiality of same. Communicates changes to strategies and coordinates development of or modifications to existing policies accordingly.
Actively engages with business peers to assess business opportunities and risks and to direct actions on both corporate vs. product level sustainability.
Collaborates with Procurement on sustainable sourcing strategies and actions, advising on key areas of focus, providing subject matter expertise and engaging with external stakeholders as necessary.
Provides subject matter expertise on sustainability matters to business and cross-functional peers. Participates as a resource in the event of an environmental related crisis.
Uses influence to progress sustainability objectives across the organization. Continuously evolve and report metrics that define success and communicate progress as appropriate, internally and externally.
Provides input, as needed, to acquisition or other related business decisions with a sustainability lens.
Develops internal and external partnerships to drive sustainability efforts, including involment with trade associations, customers, academics, NGOs and other external collaboration forums.
Collaborates with Corporate Communications to implement a proactive communications strategy to promote Conagra’s sustainability efforts to both internal and external stakeholders, including the annual CR report, CDP, DJSI, government agency, credible NGO, trade association and priority customer reporting requirements.
Collaborates with Supply Chain EHSS leadership to integrate sustainability strategies with regulatory compliance challenges across the manufacturing platforms.
Remains current on global environmental sustainability trends, regulations and research.
Develops and manage department budget and small sustainablity staff with focus on metrics, transparent reporting, waste reduction and diversion, product design, etc. Staff may include scientists, engineers, interns, and admin support. Position may also have dotted line responsibilities for other people or groups. Must be agile in sourcing and utilizing resources beyond span of direct control, including identification and direction of consulting resources, as needed.
BS degree required, preferably in engineering or technical environmental field; advanced degree desired.
Minimum of 10 years of related experience including direct or indirect personnel management and leadership, preferably in the food industry
Must have experience interacting with and influencing government agencies, trade associations, retailer customers, academia, NGOs and preferably investors
Adept at influencing beyond span of control internally across functional groups and levels.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Proficient in MS Office tools with working knowledge of database and reporting tools.
Available to work during non-core business hours to support business as needed.
Ability to travel up to 35% of the time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible Conagra representative.
