Responsible for primary health care in the Psychiatric Emergency Services Department, with regard to patient histories, exams, diagnoses, treatment, education and referrals to ensure optimal patient medical management consistent with the Parkland mission of patient centered/patient valued care.
Education: -Must have completed a graduate or post-graduate level Nurse Practitioner educational program accredited by a national nursing education accrediting body that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Board of Nursing. -Must have a Master's degree in Nursing.
Experience: -Prefer three to five years of experience as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse with prescriptive authority or as a psychiatric nurse generalist.
Equivalent Experience: -If hired at Parkland before March 1, 2014, may have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.
Certification/Registration/Licensure: -Must have current Registered Nurse license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license. -Must have current license from the Texas Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with authorization to practice as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH) or as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist. -Must have active certification as a PMH Nurse Practitioner or PMH Clinical Nurse Specialist by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). -Must have current CPR-Healthcare Provider (CPR-HP) certification from one of the following: oAmerican Heart Association oAmerican Red Cross Rescuer oMilitary Training Network. . -Must have Satori Alternative to Managing Aggression (SAMA) levels 1-4 or must obtain within 30 days of hire of placement into the job. Must have SAMA certification before first clinical orientation shift. -Must meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and Credentialing Policies/Procedures, if any.
Skills or Special Abilities: -Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards. -Must be able to function independently and as a member of the PHHS healthcare team. -Must have effective written and verbal communication skills in working with a diverse population of patients and families, nurses, physicians and community agencies. -Must have knowledge and skill in educating patients and families. -Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
