Electric Project Estimating plays a critical role in shaping National Grid?s short and long term capital budgets for the three lines of electric businesses within the US; Distribution, Substation, and Transmission. By working closely with numerous other departments including Engineering, Project Management, and Construction, our highly collaborative team develops detailed, defensible estimates using nationally recognized estimating techniques. Our unique position within the business allows us to participate as core project team members in challenging and interesting capital projects. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our own performance through team-developed department initiatives as well as analysis of actual spend to our estimates upon project completion.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Provide accurate, timely estimates for all complex electric transmission, substation, and distribution construction projects.Estimates include all aspects of project work including materials, engineering, permitting, environmental, construction, labor, and equipment.
Based on engineering designs, site visits, and associated materials, select relevant information to develop estimates as well as enable the analysis of key themes and trends.
Revise and update the estimating system software to support storage and retrieval of estimating information and enhance efficiency and operability of the system.
Monitor year on year accuracy of estimated costs and challenge business processes in order to ensure National Grid delivers projects on budget. Document findings and develop improvement plans based on the analysis.
Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies within assigned area.
Work independently to manage schedule and workload in order to meet need dates.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field, ex: Project Management, Business Degree.
OR in lieu of a degree candidates with relevant work experience and training may be considered.
Preferred - Utility Project Management/Estimating experience.
Proficient MS Office computer skills (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc?)
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Proven interpersonal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of planning, design, and construction process.
Knowledge of initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing a project.
Able to work and interact with engineers during all phases of projects.
Must have a valid driver's license with safe driving history.
Preferences for Current Position:
Professional Estimator Certification in AACE International, ICEAA, or ASPE.
3 to 5 years work experience (Master's degree considered equivalent to 1 year work experience)
Knowledge of Success Enterprise or other estimating software application.
