JOB TITLE: Motor Technician I 


The Motor Technician I duties include inspecting material and parts before assembly, winding, assembling and assisting in the testing of an electric ESP motor. Inspects cores for defects and aligns laminations, using hammer and drift; uses measuring devices and records test results 


  • Monitor & review quality of parts and assembly standards.
  • Assemble motors, track parts and supply status.
  • Files burrs from core slots, using hand file, portable power file, and scraper.
  • Lines slots with sheet insulation and inserts coils into slots.
  • Cuts, strips, and bends wire leads at ends of coils using pliers and wire scrapers.
  • Twists leads together to connect coils.
  • Taps coil and end winding to shape, using hammer and fiber block.
  • Tests windings for motor-housing clearance, grounds, and short circuits using clearance gauge, spring steel blade, insulation tester and resistance bridge.
  • Winds new coils on stator and rotors of used motors.
  • Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed and types of parts to be processed.
  • Maintain all records and inspection reports for each motor.
  • Operate motor lift, oven, hand tools and test equipment in a safe manner.
  • Adhere to all EH&S standards.
  • Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level.
  • Must be willing to work as needed during nights and weekends.
  • Must wear PPE and follow QHSE standards in a clean work environment. 


  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Preferred to have prior experience with ESP motors.
  • Must be able to read and write English and follow simple engineering schematics.
  • Will need to be able to dismantle and rebuild equipment.
  • Maintains testing equipment and instruments.
  • Able to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of equipment.
  • Must keep your work space clean and hazard free.
  • Candidate will need to have a proven track record of reliability, and dependability.
  • Must be a team player and a problem solver.
  • Must be a self-starter with a positive attitude.
  • Promoting safe work practices at all times.
  • Attending mandatory safety meetings and maintaining Company property and equipment in safe operating conditions at all times.
  • Must have the ability to work overtime and weekends when required. 


  • Must have GED -- high school graduate.
  • 3+ Experience with electrical test equipment.
  • 5+ Experience with electrical circuits.
  • 3+ years' experience winding electrical motors.
  • 3+ Experience filling out reports and using Microsoft office.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
