The responsibilities of the Preliminary Design Engineer include, but are not limited to: Requirements Generation, Analysis & Tracking; Conceptual Design Studies; Aircraft Configuration Development; Conduct of associated Trade Studies; Project Definition, Development & Leadership; RFI and RFP responses with associated Proposal Preparation; Support/Development of Platform/Product/Technology Roadmaps including integration of new technology initiatives in a measure way ; Interface with Internal (Including Executive management), External (in particular DoD customers/users) and suppliers; Conduct of A/C Ship Integration and Air Transport studies. The selected candidate will work closely with internal Preliminary Design personnel, Engineering & Technology disciplines/organizations, other Sikorsky Departments and with external customers/suppliers. The candidate will also be involved in developing win and product strategies and supporting ongoing & new business development efforts.
6-10+ years of related experience in aircraft conceptual/preliminary design, systems engineering or equivalent avionics, airframe, subsystem analysis, design or test of helicopter systems is desired. Preliminary design skills, with breadth of knowledge, is more important than depth. Expertise in a particular area of subsystem/design is desired with general knowledge of all/most areas. Knowledge of avionics systems and mission equipment is very useful. The interrelationships amongst various subsystems are of particular importance. An understanding of the conceptual design process and the iterative nature of the acquire business chain is directly applicable. Candidate should have a demonstrated knowledge of current Sikorsky Product Line (Hawks, S/H-92, Heavy lift), and experience/knowledge with maritime (ASW/SUW/AMCM/SAR), land forces (utility/attack/SOF) and other similar mission areas. The individual should have experience with project definition, development and leadership as well as Risk Management tools/techniques. Demonstrated experience managing or participation in an Integrated Product Development team environment is a plus. Knowledgeable of DoD acquisition and budgeting processes. Program Management Academy or similar experience. Business Acquisition Management University or similar proposal development experience. Also desirable: Detailed configuration and Bills of Material experience; Understanding of Sikorsky Business Development Processes; Design principles of DTC/DFM/CAIV;3D CAD/CATIA experience Additional Comments: Microsoft Office/PC skills and the ability to accommodate changing priorities on a daily basis are a must. Must be able to multi-task and work as part of a team to support customer schedules. Strong communication skills required. Current US SECRET Clearance or prior is required. Some travel, may be required.
