JOB DESCRIPTION:

VAE is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Python / Django Developer to support software development initiatives for a federal government client. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend development using Python and Django frameworks and must be familiar with secure coding practices and government IT compliance standards (e.g., FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable Python/Django-based web applications
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing automated network solutions leveraging Nautobot as the central source of truth and primary automation platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, cybersecurity, and data engineering, to deliver secure solutions
  • Create, optimize, and maintain Python scripts (Nautobot Jobs) for automating complex network management tasks.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and designers to build end-to-end features
  • Integrate APIs and third-party services (e.g., government data systems, legacy systems)
  • Maintain documentation for software code, system designs, and operational procedures in line with federal reporting requirements
  • Optimize applications for performance and scalability
  • Debug and resolve technical issues in production and development environments
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and adhere to sprint cycles, story points, and CI/CD best practices
  • Ensure compliance with government security policies and regulations
  • Assist with Section 508 accessibility compliance and testing
  • Contribute to technical proposal writing or documentation for deliverables, when required


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Active Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience with Python and Django
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases
  • Django Framework: Strong knowledge of Django fundamentals, ORM, REST APIs, and custom plugin development.
  • Experience working with Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of cloud environments (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government)
  • Network Automation Tools: Practical experience using tools such as Ansible, Nornir, Jinja2, and Terraform.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with federal government clients (e.g., DoD, DHS, HHS, VA)
  • Familiarity with containerization tools such as Docker/Kubernetes
  • Experience working in a FISMA or FedRAMP-regulated environment
  • Knowledge of NetDevOps practices and automation
  • Familiarity with NIST, ATO processes, and security controls implementation
