Job Description:
The National Space Systems Department is currently in need for a Systems Engineer II to support the Space Systems Mission Areas in the development and build of space electro-optical payloads and sensors. Specifically, the department is seeking current and future engineering leaders committed and passionate about the architecting and program execution of Systems in the project life cycle that support Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Mission Areas. As an example, the Systems Engineer will be part of a team building electro-optical Systems including imagers, passive/active EO tracking, LIDAR, hyperspectral and/or multi-spectral Systems. The Systems Engineer will be supporting and helping develop initial Systems architecture, developing requirements for payload/sensor, and leading the design and build efforts. The role involves being able assess design characteristics and analyze impacts to performance parameters such as SWaP, MTF, SNR, WFE, and spectral response. The role also involves understanding verification and test activities to assist in the creation of a proper IV&V plan meeting the requirements of the program.

The National Space Systems Department is an organization of approximately 130 Systems engineering leaders, located in El Segundo and San Diego, CA, Arlington, VA and Port Jefferson, NY. The department?s charter is provide system engineering, architecture, performance modeling/simulation and project leadership primarily for electro-optical products and technology. Department staff supports the Space Systems and the Advanced Concepts and Technology mission areas.

The ideal candidate will be a Systems Engineer with experience in the development and delivery Systems and technologies for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Mission Areas. They will be accountable for design and development of production subsystem and test and verification strategies. Additional responsibilities and opportunities include, but are not limited to:

  • Architecture and implementation of Systems in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Mission Areas
  • Execution of System Engineering, Integration and Test
  • Development of subsystem and system emulators/simulators solutions (software and hardware).
  • System test procedure development for the validation of production line hardware
  • Requirements and specification development, design implementation, verification and validation

Required Skills:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in execution of design, development, and analysis of large system architecture
  • Experience in preparing and executing integration, verification and validation, including but not limited to test
  • Experience in requirements development, and fundamental understanding of EO/IR and RF technologies
  • Proven ability to interface with customers and lead technical solutions to complex user requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
  • Active SSBI Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain special access clearance(s)

Desired Skills:
  • An integrated software and hardware skill-set preferably with an emphasis on either:
    • Requirements development and detail design implementation
    • Application to the test and evaluation environment
  • Proven ability to develop system and subsystem performance and test requirements, evaluate Systems and subsystems interfaces, or design and integrate Systems or subsystems that support Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Mission Areas
  • Ability to obtain SSBI Clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearances.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Math, Science or related technical discipline.
