This position within the Component Engineering Department will perform as the section manager of the Passives Component Specialist section. Component engineers are responsible for providing subject matter expertise of electrical, optical and mechanical components. Specific responsibilities include providing leadership over a section of 10 Component Specialists that perform parts selection and standardization, application engineering, generate component specifications, perform alerts assessments and obsolescence risk coding (OMT), and process New Part Introductions (NPIs) in xDM and New Part Requests (NPRs) in PDM. Component engineers also participate on RSP and SEAC teams and interface with SCM, Supplier Quality, Operations, Systems Engineering, Design Engineering and Mission Assurance personnel to resolve active and passive part issues and / or supplier issues. The chosen leader is expected to have working knowledge of electronic components, e.g. semiconductor, passive and/or electromechanical commodities. The leader is also expected to champion parts & supplier standardization efforts and participate on enterprise teams

Required Skills:

  • 10 years minimum of experience in engineering, manufacturing or product support.
  • Serves as organization spokesperson on technical matters and acts as an advisor to management, parts managers, program personnel and junior engineers.
  • Working knowledge of components, component failure modes, MIL specs and MIL Standards, project management and parts management.
  • Familiar with various commodities of EEE & Mechanical Parts and associated suppliers and applicable obsolescence issues.
  • Familiar with quality principles and methods of operation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products and have proficient computer skills.
  • Able to construct an elegantly written ?white paper? or engineering dispositions with minimal involvement by department management.
  • Act independently to uncover and resolve issues.
  • Ability to recommend technological application to programs for the purpose of meeting short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to handle multiple concurrent projects. Logistics and production control knowledge a plus.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

  • Ability to make ?on-the-spot? technical / programmatic decisions in situations when incomplete data is available, but other factors are available to use as guidance.
  • Ability to write well & concisely, yet express necessary history, problem details / specifics and proposed solution(s) for consideration by management / programs.
  • In addition the chosen leader will ideally directly perform or supervise employees to:
  • Work closely with the System Engineers and Product design team(s) to understand the System/component requirements
  • Develop the program component plans and APMPLs in support of PMPCB Chairs and Parts Managers
  • Support the Program IPT(s) in managing component standards and component GIDEP alerts for the product design
  • Assure product components meet the design and performance requirements in accordance with the user needs and the Customer expectations
  • Contribute to the overall product supplier base selection, component specification, and Program make-buy decision needs
  • Coordinate detailed specifications and additional testing/screening as required
  • Identify component testing/screening needs of a Product
  • Works closely with supply chain in the vendor selection, evaluation, and purchase of key components
  • Leverage knowledge of domain specific technologies to develop Product design component standards
  • Leverage component knowledge of domain specific technologies to support product design
  • Manage the product component needs for the System, sub-units, and lower-level products
  • Define component requirements and needed specification types for the deliverable product
  • Manage the overall product component standard list
  • Support program reviews (i.e. PPR, PMR, PDR, CDR) as a subject matter expert
  • Support programs with new vendor or new product qualification as needed including MRR, TRR, TTR, RESA and FAI
  • Support programs SSOW development for qualification and second sourcing efforts
  • Generate qualification test plans and write qualification reports
  • Participate in generation of industry component specifications
  • Create FRB packages on component issues and interfacing with Program Office / Customer on closure
  • Author articles or contributing to technical publications (internal & external)

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Required Education: Bachelor?s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Physics

Desired Education:
Master?s Degree (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering)
MBA is considered a plus after technical degrees were received

This position requires a U.S. person or the ability to obtain an Export Authorization from the appropriate government agency for non-U.S. persons
