GDIT is seeking a facilities management professional to lead in Data Center design efforts to support our program at the SEC. GDIT is excited to support the SEC in as it seeks to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation. The SEC ISS program is a comprehensive IT program charged with operating, managing, and advancing the SEC?s IT infrastructure. Our dynamic program team of IT leaders and large and small business partners is seeking bright, energetic and talented individuals to join us as we bring our innovative IT Service Delivery solutions to SEC.

The Data Center SME shall be experienced with Data Center design and operations sufficient to manage all aspects of Data Center design and project support and ensure a successful move of the existing D1 Data Center to the new location with no compromise of existing operational capabilities at the D2 Data Center

This candidate shall work closely with SEC Office of Information Technology stakeholders in the branches of Infrastructure Engineering, Network Engineering, Security engineering, and Data Center Operations to identify and implement improvements to the operational and reporting capabilities, as well as improved ease of use and management of the Data Center infrastructure, in the new Data Center design, with a focus on:

Managed Adds/Moves/Changes

  • Capacity and usage reports of electrical power per rack
  • Capacity and usage reports of electrical power per power strip
  • Capacity and usage management of patch panel and wiring maps
  • Delivery and support of new technology and special projects
  • Mitigate any datacenter move dependencies

The Data Center SME shall perform detailed planning and design of the Data Center infrastructure.  Planning and design shall include requirements gathering efforts for all specific identifications and management of requirements for rack features and design for:

  • Equipment cabinets ? Define the type, style and accessories of 48U server cabinets
  • Network/Security Racks ? Define the type, style and accessories of 48U 4-post equipment racks
  • Power ? Design for adequate power connections from co-location hosting facility power distribution system to existing NetApp, IBM, and EMC racks, as well as new power strips for new Server and Network gear racks. Specify and design new power strips to meet the planned demand of equipment in rack elevation drawings with the correct number and type of power cord receptacles
  • Security ? Design and implement new camera layouts integrated with the existing Data Center operations Network Video Recorder systems,  specify rack combination locks, rack key locks, key cabinets, and policies
  • Network Connectivity design detail ? Design and manage cable connectivity, patch panels, structured cabling, Data layering and all aspects of physical plant cabling design and cable management for new and existing Data centers.

The Data Center SME shall work closely with the target relocation co-location hosting facility provider as well as the SEC project manager to represent the Data Center operations teams interest and ensure all aspects of the detailed requirements, planning and design of the Data Center infrastructure is accommodated.  The SME shall provide deliverables to support planning and design, as well as operation and capacity management of the Data Center infrastructure.

Work product output shall include drawings, documents, and cabling plant spreadsheets, schedules, and scopes of work sufficient for hosting contractor to build and install the supporting rack/power/cooling/cabling infrastructure and perform the physical relocation and installation efforts of the Data Center move.  The SME shall include and represent all the requirements of the Data Center operations team.

In addition to the design and support of the Data Center relocation effort, the Data Center SME shall develop and implement improved work processes of the day to day operations of the SEC Data centers, including development and execution of improvements for:

  • Comprehensive Service Catalog of Data Center services (Customer Centric)
  • Standard Operating Procedures to enhance the existing documentation sets
  • Improved workflow processes for hardware deployments and removal
  • NLyte enhancements for usability
  • ISX Central enhancements for improved reporting and monitoring of power and environmental systems.
