About the Position:
The Director IS GlobalPortfolio will be responsible for the global oversight of project activityacross the US and UK markets, providing program health assessments andidentifying risks. The incumbent willlead efforts to standardize work practices and processes, develop consistentmetrics and provide tools and capabilities to the regional PMOs.
In addition, this team will be responsible toprovide global metrics on IS performance and health of the current projectportfolio. This role will report intothe VP IS Strategy, Innovation and Program Assurance, and will require frequentcollaboration with the IS Leadership Team (ISLT, comprised of the CIO and CIO’sdirect reports) as well as key leaders across Global IS and PMO leaders acrossNational Grid.
Day-to day management of the Global Portfolio team.
Establish the IS Global Portfolio Management Strategy to govern Programs and Projects. Agree the management plan working closely with the program delivery functions in the US and UK.
Become the global process owner for project delivery across National Grid and lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve how the processes are leveraged
Review assurance findings, lessons learned, issues driving under performance (including trends and norms) and other intelligence to make recommendations within the wider portfolio.
Leverage opportunities from learning from experience and make recommendations for improvements.
Adapt the solution delivery methodology and framework based on Global Portfolio findings to continually improve our approach to project management
Undertake ‘Deep Dive’ independent assurance reviews where risk assessment indicates that is necessary.
Develop consistentproject metrics for running and completed programs
Create a comprehensiveapproach to defining and achieving business benefits associated with ISactivities
Lead efforts tostandardize processes and tools across National Grid IS organizations
Establish a project /program management career path within National Grid
Mentor and coach directteam (5 direct reports) and project managers in the regional IS teams
Knowledge & Experience Required:
15 Years leadership experience and a minimum of 10 years of experience managing programs of varying types through a wide range of program life-cycle stages
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated knowledge in the utilization of program management processes, resources and tools
PM Certification PRINCE 2 or PMI certification, highly desired
Bias for action, ability to drive for results and appetite for risk without day to day direction.
Influence, Engagement across various levels within Global IS and Business.
Entrepreneurial, capable of selling concepts and engaging others behind a shared vision / set of objectives
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an analytical or business oriented discipline like Information Systems or Industrial Engineering.
Experience with Lean / Six Sigma programs in a large multi-national or global corporation like National Grid.
Structured problem solving & analytical skills.
Demonstrated experience with collaboration and leading change.
Track record of developing successful, long-lasting relationships across the business to drive forward change initiatives, including a demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior managers.
Experience in coaching and mentoring others - demonstrate understanding and application of teaching/coaching for performance.
Persistence and strategic agility to develop and implement sustainable change programs, engaging others and driving change through the business.
Direct employees: 5 - 10
Travel 25% UK and US. This may vary, depending on the locations of Programs.
