The Technical Services group is responsible for the development of short to intermediate-term products, engineering processes, and packaging solutions for the business. We also provide technical support for all of the manufacturing operations associated with the pet Food business in the United States and Canada. The position supports the business by providing dry product (low moisture Food and treats) preservation expertise for products manufactured by Nestle Purina Pet Care and contract manufacturing facilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical support on product preservation/sterility for new and existing product/processes/packages for all categories of products.  This includes development, scale up and implementation of new and existing technologies to ensure that all dry products.
  • Serves as technical resource to TAG, PTC, Legal, Regulatory, Operations, Engineering, Q.A., PR, Factories, Management, and other functional groups regarding commercial sterility
  • Collaboratively and proactively keeps management, factories, key functional areas and team project members apprised of risk, issues, mitigation, and contingencies regarding product preservation as is relevant to technical and business success.
  • Design, conduct, and document dry product preservation studies for existing and new dry products.
  • Identify and approve product preservation /commercial sterility CCPs and system qualifications to include preparing and approving new operating procedures for factories, contract manufacturing and PTC operations.
  • Evaluate product preservation deviations of existing dry product operations in compliance with regulatory and Nestle requirements.
  • Develop and lead dry product preservation training for the factories, TAG, PTC and other functional groups.
  • Candidate MUST be willing to travel 40-60% of the time with minimal weekend travel.
  • Practice safety in the work area.

Basic Qualifications: 

BS in Food science, meat science, animal science, microbiology and/or applied engineering 

4+ year of Food safety/ Food preservation experience. 

1+ year working with thermal processing and/or validation techniques

1+ year of experience in an industrial/manufacturing or military environment 

OR 

MS/PHD in Food science, meat science, animal science, microbiology and/or applied engineering 

2+ year of Food safety/Food preservation experience

1+ year working with thermal processing and/or validation techniques

1+ year of experience in an industrial/manufacturing or military environment 


Asset (Skills): 

1+ year experience in Food product development, formulation and scale up
