Essential Job Functions: (not limited to duties as described - performs related duties as requested)
Designs overall fire protection systems, conduct investigations into post fire incidents, and provide specifications for building construction, exit and egress means, and mechanical systems.
Examines the nature and characteristics of fire phenomena and the associated products of combustion and determines how fires originate, spread, and are detected, controlled, and/or extinguished. Work includes the anticipation and prediction of fire behavior on materials, structures, machines, and apparatus to protect life and property.
Provides fire protection and system safety engineering technical leadership, criteria and code interpretation, design and construction quality assurance, training and mentoring in the areas of fire prevention and systems safety design to initial planning team (IPT) architectural, engineering and project management.
Utilizes established guidelines to plan, formulate, and implement fire protection engineering strategies, goals, and program instructions. Serves as team lead for fire protection engineering support surveys and acceptance tests conducted on new and rehabilitated fire protection engineering systems.
Education & Experience:
Must have a degree in Engineering (Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, etc.). Preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering and be a registered Professional Engineer in under the New Mexico State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors.
Must have a minimum 4 years of relevant fire protection engineering experience (8+ years preferred) and experience working with military engineering standards. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following, serve as a technical authority on facilities fire protection and life safety; conduct and review designs for fire protection systems; apply knowledge of engineering/architectural fields to solve facility engineering issues/problems; and Inspect, test, and approve new and rehabilitated fire protection systems.
