Job Description:

Excited about developing systems that take detailed satellite images of Earth? From systems that take pictures of Earth’s vegetation index, aerosol characteristics over continents, land and ice temperature, and cloud formations of the next hurricane, these capabilities are made possible by the products made at Raytheon in El Segundo, California. Consider joining us to develop the next generation of space-based imaging systems.

The Responsive Space Systems Department seeks Principal Systems Engineers to lead the design, development, and build of DoD/Civil Electro-Optical (EO) Space Systems. The systems engineer will be responsible for assessing systems architectures, developing requirements for these systems, and supporting the design and build efforts. The role involves being able to model and assess EO design characteristics and analyze impacts to performance parameters such as MTF, radiometric performance, line-of-sight, IFOV, etc. The role also involves understanding verification and test activities to lead the systems engineering team in creating a proper IV&V plan that meets the requirements of the program. The role also includes some involvement in pre-proposal and proposal activities.

  • Minimum 6 years engineering experience, preferably with some experience in Electro-Optical (EO) systems engineering
  • Demonstrated problem solving, organization, coordination, and planning skills
  • Experience in complex system level modeling for developing lower level performance requirements
  • Experience designing and testing electrical subsystems
  • Experience in working with interface/control and end-to-end digital and analog electronics, including testing, validation and/or troubleshooting

  • Experience in numerical modeling and simulation, and performing analysis using MATLAB, C++, Python, or similar language
  • Experience with Electrical Subsystems, including deriving lower level Electrical requirements based on desired Sensor System performance
  • Experience includes understanding of electrical schematics and components to contribute to troubleshooting, determination of root cause, definition of corrective action and implementation of solutions
  • Integration and Test experience with Space Level Hardware
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Active DoD Secret clearance
