Structural Engineer provides engineering services in support of the design, construction, operation, and lifecycle maintenance and contributes to major facility improvements, renovations. Provides support and civil/structural knowledge for facilities planning, programming, design, construction, and equipment installation for required Project facilities and infrastructure.
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
Performs all aspects of engineering analysis and design for projects from concept stages through final design, and construction management including knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards.
Works closely on construction plans with clients, architects, and other Professionals.
Develops design ideas using CAD Software.
Investigates the properties of materials like glass, steel, and concrete, and advises which is most suitable.
Works out the loads and stresses on different parts of a structure.
Uses computer simulations to predict how structures will react under different conditions.
Inspects unsafe buildings and recommending options for repairs or demolition.
Ensures that projects meet legal guidelines, environmental directives, and health and safety requirements.
Knowledge & Skills
Thorough knowledge of civil/structural design and engineering techniques.
Proficient in creating designs simple enough for local construction contractors to complete, and meet the requirements of the PWS.
Excellent communications, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
Capable of complete design services including structural load determination, planning and siting.
Proficient using Microsoft Office and Project, etc.
Experience & Education
Must have Bachelor?s degree in Structural Engineering with five (5) or more years of structural project engineering work experience, preferably on a U.S. Government/ Military installation.
Must have Professional Engineer approved by the New Mexico State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers
