Job Summary
The Safety Manager develops, implements, and maintains safety programs ensuring compliance with Company, industry, US Air Force, and other applicable safety standards and regulations.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
  • Reviews, updates, and/or develops and implements safety policies and programs as required.
  • Reviews and prepares incident/accident report to determine cause and adjust current procedures to prevent future recurrences.
  • Performs and/or coordinates safety training.
  • Works with functional area managers and supervisors to correct findings discovered during inspections.
  • Inspects facilities for safety violations.
  • Assists functional managers and supervisors in conducting job hazard analysis.
  • Performs accident investigations as necessary and provides recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Reviews Worker?s Compensation cases.
  • Prepares briefings for General Manager and functional area managers on safety-sensitive issues.
  • Prepares and provides timely reports of all recordable accidents and incidents to the state and federal Government as necessary.
  • Conducts and/or coordinates new-hire Safety orientation.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of logistic systems, planning, quality control and supervisory policies, principles, procedures and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of analytical methodology, statistical process control and continual process improvement.
  • Familiarity with the development and operation of management reporting systems.
  • Ability to develop and present senior staff-level briefings and management reports.
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement approaches and change management.
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment.

Experience & Education

  • Must have Bachelor's degree in safety engineering with five (5) years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs or three (3) years of experience if they possess a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential or safety and health degree.
  • Must have OSHA safety certification.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
  • May be required to lift heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds
  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications
  • Will handle dirty parts and lubricants
  • Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds
  • Work Environment:
  • May work in normal office environment, maintenance shop or outside
  • Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment
  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles
