JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for managing the day to day sensory panel activities within the Solon NDC Center.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sensory Panel Leader will be responsible for leading the descriptive sensory panel on a daily basis with support from the Sensory Specialists and Technicians.  This will include panel moderating, panelist performance tracking and creating descriptive language glossaries.  This position will also assist the Sensory Specialists with basic data analysis, writing reports and presenting the information, as applied to the business.  This individual will work closely with the sensory panel members, Sensory Technicians, Sensory Specialists and other R&D associates to provide all sensory panel related support to the business on a timely basis.

Management and training of sensory panels

  • Administration of internal and external panels.
  • Screening and training of panels, including panel performance monitoring with assistance from Sensory Specialists
  • Tracking panel performance and providing feedback to panelists'.Planning and execution of tasting sessions.
  • Collecting/ordering and storing products, samples and references as needed for panel training.
  • Planning, scheduling, and running assigned panel sessions.
  • Assisting technicians as needed to prepare and serve samples to the panel according to instructions.
  • Development of tasting procedures and methodologies with Sensory Specialists.
  • Creating test ballots (paper or computer), and running basic statistical analyses.
  • Management of shelf-life tests.
  • Summarizing and reporting results (write simple reports).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):

? BS or BA in Food Science or related field, Communications or Market Research. Technical training in scientific or food-related field, is a plus.

? Experience in panel moderating or facilitation. Experience in sensory evaluation or equivalent is a plus.

? Strong computer skills: MS-Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook). Sensory data collection / statistical software (e.g. SIMS 2000, XLSTAT, FIZZ, SAS) is a plus.

? Experience with statistical analysis and reporting

? Strong written and oral communication skills

? Strong organizational skills

? Able to work well in a team environment
