If so, we have an immediate need for a Systems/Software Quality Engineer within IDS located in Woburn, Massachusetts.

As a Sr. Quality Engineer, you will represent the customer?s best interests, assuring product and process quality and effectiveness throughout the entire product life cycle from planning through post-delivery support. In this role, you will work closely with both Software and Systems Engineering Teams to flow system level requirements into their work products, support work product peer reviews and release through the PDM configuration management system, all leading to software and system integration, verification, and validation.

As a member of an Engineering Teams, you will deliver value to the team?s planning, coordination, and execution while maintaining focus on achieve continuous improvement and compliance to program requirements. You will use analytical skills to help the team proactively identify problems, use quality science skills to identify the true underlying root cause, identify and implement corrective actions that address the root cause and finally verify that the implemented corrective action actually resolved the original problem identified.

Note: This position can be a Salary Grade G09 or Salary Grade G10 based on the candidate?s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.


Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Systematically translate, analyze, and prioritize customer needs, contractual requirements, company policy and objectives into quality performance standards and operational definitions for the affected performing organizations
  • Participation in the analysis of Program metrics (cost, schedule, productivity, etc), and help identify issues and interpret trends
  • Lead improvement efforts for key Program metrics
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action solutions using closed loop process controls and continuous improvement methods in order to improve product/process predictability and capability
  • Ensure flow down of Raytheon and contract program requirements both internally and to suppliers, ensures compliance with contract program, quality and organizational requirements.
  • Team with other quality engineers to form a highly-intellectual, statistical-approach organization
  • Effectively engage in peer reviews of software, firmware, systems engineering, integration/test and supportability artifacts (source code, requirements and design artifacts, test plans and procedures, technical bulletins, user manuals etc.)
  • Review major deliverables to ensure contract compliance prior to delivery to customer. Includes reviewing major deviations and waivers, acceptance test results and all major anomaly conditions.as well as acting as the final gate for all formal releases
  • Be the process champion, providing process definition and training when necessary
  • Review practices, procedures and processes seeking avenues to improve efficiency and effectiveness and reduce risk to product quality.
  • Helping to onboard new employees to the section
  • Interface with customers and DCMA to ensure compliance and resolution of any reported issues.

Required Skills:

  • 6+ years? experience in Quality Sciences or Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Reliability or Safety
  • Existing Secret clearance or ability to obtain a Secret clearance within 90 days
  • Bachelor?s degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics

Desired Skills:

  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certification, Six Sigma Black Belt, or Lean
  • M.S. degree in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics
  • 6+ years? experience in continuous improvement processes such as Six Sigma and / or Lean Methodologies
  • Engineering development experience; C++, VxWorks, Linux
  • Knowledgeable of Software Processes; the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI), the software lifecycle; requirements, design, implementation, and software testing
  • Experience with the development and analysis of System/Software requirements
  • Experience in supporting Agile/Scrum software development
  • Knowledge in configuration management and control tools i.e. Rational CM Synergy, Rational Change Synergy, PDM, ClearCase
  • Knowledge in test automation and test automation tools,
  • Able to facilitate cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities (e.g. 6-sigma, lean manufacturing)
  • Analytical skills in root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
  • Experience with AS 9100 quality management systems
  • Excellence in both oral and written communication
  • High energy, self-starting team player who is results based
  • Ability to build effective relationships through partnering and collaboration
