Job Description:
Tooling Design Engineer. The qualified candidate will provide mechanical engineering design and drafting to the Mechanical Design department using Creo MCAD tool and Windchill Common PDM. The candidate will under general direction, perform mechanical design and some tolerance analysis, and will assist in the construction of tooling and test equipment used in manufacturing infrared focal plane array packaging in a clean room environment. Tooling may include fixtures, jigs, test dewars and the like, used in manufacturing Focal Planes, vacuum dewars and uncooled vacuum packages. The candidate will work closely with a manufacturing and/or process engineers to ensure that the tooling will meet requirements. The candidate will assist in the procurement and will work with the suppliers to ensure that the components meet the program technical, cost and schedule requirements. The candidate will engage in technical discussions with internal customers.

Position is contingent upon Contract Award.

Required Skills:

  • 4 - 5 years professional tooling design experience.
  • Sound knowledge of basic mechanical engineering, principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Creo/Pro-E CAD tool and Windchill. DFMA.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing form controls in accordance with ASME or ANSI Y14.5M.
  • Experience in working as a contributor to a plurality of design teams.
  • Knowledge of conventional and additive manufacturing techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.


Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing tooling for cryogenic electronic packaging and clean room protocols.
  • Expert knowledge of Creo/Pro-E CAD tool.
  • Basic knowledge of high precision alignment and assembly techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of DFMA and DTC. Team player. Inquisitive and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to qualify for a secret security clearance.
  • Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing form controls in accordance with ASME or ANSI Y14.5M.


Required Education: Associates degree or technical school in Engineering, Science or Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Desired Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering Preferred.
