Overview of Position:
This requisition is for an early in career level position with the Environmental Test and Test Automation Section. The ideal candidate would have a BS or be in pursuit of a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, and have experience in the environmental test field and automated test mechanical design.

Brief statement of mission/purpose of work group:
The Environmental Test and Test Automation Section of the Rapid Hardware Solutions Department is responsible for planning, performing and reporting on structural, dynamic, static, acoustic, climatic, modal testing and other related environmental tests. Additionally, the Section is responsible for test automation and mechanical design to support all testing. The types of environmental tests include proof of design, risk mitigation, proof of manufacturing, qualification and engineering tests on operating and non-operating hardware. Additionally, Environmental Test and Test Automation Section personnel develop environmental stress screening requirements and provide rapid response factory production support. The Section?s recent growth has caused a need for additional engineering depth.

Job Description:

  • Perform instrumentation planning and test conduct of all environmental tests including vibration, mechanical shock, acoustic, temperature, altitude, humidity and structural testing
  • Design, document, and validate the mechanical aspects of automated test platforms
  • Dynamic and thermal data acquisition and analysis
  • Vibration and shock test fixture design
  • Work independently and take ownership of program/projects
  • Prepare test plans, schedules, test reports and technical documentation of project work assigned
  • Work directly electrical engineers, Operations, manufacturing engineering and structural analysis personnel

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Environmental test background with thermal testing, data acquisition, and mechanical design experience
  • Project lead, team lead, and mentoring experience
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project), Creo
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacture and Assembly, Design of Experiments, Six Sigma and statistical techniques
Desired Skills:
  • Pursuit of MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with test equipment design and fabrication is desired
  • Proficiency with Siemens LMS Test Lab vibration control systems/software
  • Dynamic signal processing knowledge
  • Proficiency with Unholtz-Dickie and Thermotron environmental test equipment
  • Working knowledge of HALT/HASS testing and specifications is desirable
  • High proficiency using Common PDM for design documentation including drawing Initial Release, archive, and data management
  • Experience using Keysight test automation systems
  • Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas, test fixture/equipment design, field test instrumentation, and data acquisition/analysis and MatLab
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
