A Computer Network Technologist I maintains smooth operation of voice and data networks. Plans, evaluates, coordinates and performs installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of voice and data networks hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions. Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems. May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment. May design network or portion of network that include selection of hardware and software packages

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Required Department of Defense Security Clearance(s):
Eligibility to obtain a final Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET security clearance.

Required Skills / Certifications:

  • Desire and ability to work as a contributing team member
  • Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and intrusion detection systems
  • Current cabling and fiber standards
  • Demonstrates firewall and access control list knowledge
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Visio diagramming and design capabilities
  • Ability to work with general supervision and follow established procedures
  • U. S. Citizenship is required.

  • Experience supporting recent versions of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work under time constraints

Desired Department of Defense Security Clearance(s):

  • An active DoD Secret Clearance
  • An active DoD Top Secret, TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance or prior SCI/program eligibility

Desired Skills / Certifications:

  • An active DoD Secret clearance
  • Certifications in Security +, Network + , Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Effective customer service skills, including oral and written communications
  • Experience with telecommuniucation systems
  • Ability to work under time constraints
  • Experience with classified computing
  • Current DoD Secret level security clearance
  • Troubleshooting basic workstation and server issues
  • High Performance Computing (HPC) management experience
  • Ability to train others in standard IT processes and procedures
  • Basic Windows scripting
  • Effective customer and communication skills
  • Self-Starter, customer focused, adaptable, attention to detail, time management and ability to multitask
  • Ability to work with general supervision and follow established procedures
  • 3.0 GPA preferred

Education Requirements:

Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.


This position can be a Salary Grade ST03 or Salary Grade ST04 or Salary Grade ST05 based on the candidate's qualifications and standing as outlined below:
  • ST03 (Junior Technical Intern) - must have completed 60 hours of college
  • ST04 (Senior Technical Intern) - must have completed 90 hours of college
  • ST05 (Post Grad Technical Intern) - must have completed 90 hours of college

Special Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift 15 pounds
  • Systems are operational 24x7 and occasionally require work effort beyond standard work hours
  • Position may require some travel

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement.
