Summary: A Senior Canine Trainer - Instructor is responsible for K9 training associated with support of WPS and WPS 2 OCONUS and CONUS K9 projects. As part of the Garda-Federal K9 Training department, a Senior Trainer ? Instructor reports to the Deputy Program Manager ? K9 Training to accomplish the following 1) conduct K9 training to WPS II standards 2) conduct green dog training to Garda-Federal K9 program standards; 3) conduct CWD team training to Garda-Federal K9 program standards; 4) document all training per Garda-Federal K9 program requirements; 5) Complete all tasks as direct by Deputy Program Manager ? K9 Training 

Requirements:

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Understand Principles of Conditioning and how they apply to K9 training

  • Show understanding and ability to replicate DOS CVC standards

  • Training ?green dogs? to WPS II standards

  • Train CWD teams to WPS II standards

  • Maintain and edit, training records as directed the DPM- K9 Training

  • Oversee short term and long term K9 projects as directed by the DPM- K9 Training

  • Respond to inquiries from HTP, DOS CVC and COR as directed by DPM-K9 Training

  • Deploy for periods up to 120 days to Project (OCONUS) when required

 

Non-Essential Functions:

 

  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the customer/client

 

Crucial Requirements and Abilities:

 

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant working K9 experience, preferably in the military, law enforcement or defense contracting related

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in K9 training

  • Graduation from an industry recognized K9 Trainer Program

  • Extensive experience in Explosives Detection K9 operations, training, certifications and validations.

  • Experience in overseas project/program K9 training to include Afghanistan and Iraq

  • Experience in the National Odor Recognition Testing validation standard

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time

  • The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • The employee will work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditionsIs occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to work independently and in conjunction with various departments, Project administration, consultants and the Client

  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours to communicate with OCONUS staff, as well as key periods of additional immediate workload deadlines

  • Comprehensive research, analysis and business writing skills

  • Working knowledge in the following:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint ? Slide building creation

  • Microsoft Outlook ? ability to manage Shared Calendars and schedules

  • Excel to include formulas, pivot tables and macros

    • Share Point ? Storage of files, building site as well as managing takers and calendar

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Self-motivated ability to perform well in a high pace, fast changing work environment

  • Ability to identify risk situations and coordinate solutions with management

  • Strong organization skills.

  • Ability to work well with others under deadline situations

  • Flexibility and maturity are a must

  • Ability to work remotely while on a travel status without physical management or supervision
