Job Description:
The Data Management, Engineering Intelligence and EXecution (DEX) department is looking for individuals to contribute to a fast paced Engineering Team and work closely with the Whole Life Systems Engineering (WLSE) Functional Management to develop and implement strategic goals and influence Engineering and Whole Lifecycle Engineering requirements with Program and Sr. Leadership as a DEX Section Head.
The ideal candidate will have strong influential communication and leadership skills, with the ability to develop solutions to problems of unusual complexity that require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation.
The WLSE mission is to provide superior mission support and data integrity through innovation, collaboration, accountability, and flawless execution throughout the product life cycle, resulting in best value solutions. Our responsibilities include minimizing the total cost of ownership through engineering upfront planning and decision analysis related to product reliability, maintainability, supportability, safety and environmental impacts to our customers. It also includes the operational aspects of mission support such as field and technical support, repairs and spares management and program management support. WLSE also is responsible for configuration management, including software configuration management, as well as data management.Our vision is to be the provider of innovative affordable engineering solutions for product life cycle assurance and support to ensure customer satisfaction.

Position Summary:
The Section Head will be expected to engage with all Program Managers, Chief Engineers, and IPTLs for assigned programs to ensure that WLSE is actively represented within the Product Lines. As with all Section Heads in WLSE the successful candidate for this section will be accountable and responsible for:

Technical Role and Responsibilities:

  • Direct team members in industrial and process evaluation, improvement and/or re-engineering in support logistics activities
  • Assist in the development of action plans to address key engineering focus areas
  • Team’s Technical Execution of for the successful development and production of a product to committed cost and schedule, ensuring team interaction, the “right” job assignments and Team Program Integration Accountable for professionally supporting, technically, all program milestones and positively engaging to contribute to successful reviews and customer interchanges
  • Identifying and elevating, when required, technical execution risks (includes Technical Discipline, Technical Performance, Cost and Schedule Performance) to program and functional management
  • Meeting the Team’s committed schedule, cost and performance requirements
  • Enabling Speed through the use of common solutions, common hardware, modularity and Smart Buyer techniques in the design/development process
  • Ensuring the team is knowledgeable of and demonstrates disciplined adherence, approved engineering, engineering data bases, engineering tools and design/development processes to ensure robust performance, Producibility and affordability
  • Utilization of measures that provide program and functional management insight into the health of the Team’s technical execution
  • Understanding, identifying communicating and mitigating technical risks
As well as for the Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Timely, honest, unbiased performance evaluation, and for conducting performance/career development discussions including plans for employee improvement
  • Mentor/coach, technically and personally, to ensure success of the employee

  • Collaborating with other section heads and WLSE leaders to ensure proper support and timely completion of all requirements

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum 10 years related experience
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and experience working in teams as both a member and a leader
  • Earned Value Management Experience
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects

Desired Skills:
  • Expert in the field of Configuration Control and Work Product Life Cycle/Management
  • cPDM tool experience
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and ability to interface with top management and key suppliers
  • Must have excellent leadership skills, ability to identify potential problems and take corrective action as needed
  • Motivated change leaders in sustainment and support
  • Existing Secret Clearance preferred
  • Strategic and Visionary thinker

Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.
