Job Summary
 
The Child and Youth Services Program Assistant Lead implements Child and Youth Services  that are developmentally appropriate for Early Childhood, Youth Services or Youth Sports program.
 
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
  • Plans and implements the daily and weekly program activities and creates developmentally appropriate environment and lessons, utilizing one or more of the following curriculum and resources from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Creative Curriculum, Boys & Girls Club of America (B&GCA), 4-H, Character Counts! and Council on Accreditation (COA) standards.
  • Supports one or multiple Child and Youth programs.
  • Maintains control and accountability of the whereabouts and safety of children and youth.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth.
  • Participates in program evaluation using designated instruments such as programmatic rating scales, risk assessment tools (as required), self-inspection materials, and national accreditation tools.
  • Assists in achieving and maintaining applicable certification and national accreditation or equivalent.
  • Provides care and supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with local policies, guidance, and standards.
  • Ensures compliance with health, fire, safety, facility and program regulatory requirements and CYS baseline standards.
  • Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.
  • Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data.
  • Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults.
  • Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements.
  • Tracks participant’s accomplishments, long and short term goals, effort, and evaluations as appropriate for age and type of instruction.
  • Initiates conferences with parents and staff when appropriate.
  • Organizes activities, distributes work  and instructs team members in specific tasks and job techniques; makes available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
  • Monitors food service program for assigned area ensuring compliance with all applicable Army and USDA food program policies and procedures to include proper meal components, portion sizes and maintains food program records.
  • Completes all required training and demonstrates competence in job requirements.
  • Observes and reports any suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect to the proper authorities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with children, parents, program staff, and school personnel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
  • Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) is required

Experience & Education

  • One (1) year of children and youth group program supervision or administration experience with a related Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, often with short notice. Extended hours may include late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be in good physical health and able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Position will be assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions.
