Classified Solution Architect

This position can be a Salary Grade G09 or Salary Grade G10 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position. US Citizenship is required as this positon needs a active US DoD Secret Security Clearance as of day one of employment.



The Classified Solution Architect will work with Program Engagement Leads (PEL), Business Partnership Leads (BPL), Advanced IT and Program Execution to define business needs in a way that will enable a solution development team to successfully implement new capabilities to address the identified business needs. The Classified Solution Architect primarily works with representatives from the Program Execution organization to deliver solutions that enable programs to operate in closed environments and that enhance the productivity of The Engineering and Manufacturing community at Raytheon Missile Systems (RMS). They work closely with the project team to fully understand the business needs and to develop a solution architecture that will meet those needs, while simultaneously leveraging existing components and capabilities within both RMS and the broader Global Business Services (GBS) IT organization. The solution architect works to reduce the environment complexity through a consistent use of enterprise and business standards and works to reduce solution costs through the creation, documentation and use of common solution frameworks and components. They are responsible for maintaining an understanding of existing and new technologies as well as ongoing RMS business and GBS IT capabilities in order to leverage their understanding to provide appropriate business solutions. The solution architect is responsible for developing and documenting best practices in their area of expertise and frequently monitors the implementation teams to ensure a high quality solution is deployed. They work to refine the design and delivery processes, seeking to implement practices that maximize component reuse. Solution architects also work to provide design, development, delivery and maintenance tools and frameworks to enable the effective management and creation of solution artifacts and maintain a searchable library of these components. Finally, solution architects at the business work with their counterparts in other business and at the enterprise to maximize system reuse across the company and provide transparency in business operations.

Minimum Required Skills:

  • The ideal candidate would have 6+ years of progressive experience in information systems design and architecture, in particular in the deployment of COTS products in support of engineers.
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, Math or technology/sciences discipline or STEM degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems and developing scripts on these platforms.
  • Broad knowledge of information system technologies: servers, storage, network, security devices and system controls, virtualization and containers, and network server software packages
  • Experience architecting, designing, developing and deploying information system technologies to meet organization objectives.
  • Experience architecting, designing, developing and deploying Closed Area Information Systems
  • Experience integrating COTS products and external architectures to provide comprehensive solutions.
  • Experience assessing the risks, opportunities and business value of engineering automation solutions and quantify them in a way that is measurable and meaningful to the business.
  • Ability to mentor others to elevate their technical abilities and prepare them to step into the role of a solution architect.
  • Ability to speak with business partners in their language and to understand their business processes and to translate those needs into IT architecture requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with individuals with varied background to negotiate compromises to enable the identification of a common concept of operations.
  • Proven ability to successfully work and partner across multiple functions (RMS IT, broader RMS, GBS).
  • Demonstrated competency applying architecture frameworks and business capabilities to support complex initiatives.
  • Ability to inspire confidence in technical approaches with in-depth domain expertise and clear, persuasive communications.
  • Knowledge of JFAN 6/3, JSIG, NIST special publications, DAAPM or other requirements associated with the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Must have a current active secret clearance and must be eligible to obtain a Top Secret clearance. US Citizenship status required as this positon needs active US Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Highly Desired Skills:
  • TOGAF 9.x certification
  • Raytheon Certified Architect Program graduate
  • Experience designing large-scale IT solutions in a multi-platform enterprise.
  • Knowledge of leading edge technologies and applications with the demonstrated ability to identify and quickly understand and apply those concepts in a practical way.
  • Experience developing solution architecture models and views using the ArchiMate modeling language
  • Proficiency with Sparx Enterprise Architect
  • Familiarity of industry standards in the solution architecture domain
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
  • Raytheon Six Sigma (R6s) qualification/certification
