The sales and operations planning roles within SAS work to align the actual performance of value streams to the financial and operational plans that govern them. Actual performance is a reflection of supply available dates versus scheduled demand dates, actual process cycle times versus planned cycle times and finally available versus required capacity. Financial plans come in the forms of program annual operating plans (AOP), estimates at completion (EAC), and monthly forecast updates. Operational plans are reflected in the MRP system linking the program end item requirements into factory shop orders, purchase part requisitions and purchase orders. When these three pieces are aligned the result is an integrated plan which provides the basis for sales and operations planning. S&OP gives program managers and value stream leaders the ability to come together and make strategic decisions about how to collectively run their businesses to optimize customer satisfaction and financial performance.
