Job Summary
The Child and Youth Services Program Assistant supports the Child and Youth Services Specialists in administering a developmentally appropriate Early Childhood, Youth Services and Youth Sports program.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Assist the Child and Youth Services Specialist in planning and implementation of daily and weekly program activities and creates developmentally appropriate environment and lessons, utilizing one or more of the following curriculum and resources from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Creative Curriculum, Boys & Girls Club of America (B&GCA), 4-H, Character Counts! and Council on Accreditation (COA) standards.
  • Support one or multiple Child and Youth programs.
  • Maintains control and accountability of the whereabouts and safety of children and youth.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth.
  • Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules.
  • Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements.
  • Participates in conferences with parents and staff.
  • Cares for special needs children and youth as directed by the supervisor.
  • Helps arrange for and serve appropriate snacks or meals where applicable.
  • Participates in program evaluation using designated instruments such as programmatic rating scales, risk assessment tools (as required), self-inspection materials, and national accreditation tools.
  • Assists in achieving and maintaining applicable certification and national accreditation or equivalent.
  • Provides care and supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with local policies, guidance, and standards.
  • Ensures compliance with health, fire, safety, facility and program regulatory requirements and CYS baseline standards.
  • Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.
  • Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with children, parents, program staff, and school personnel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
  • Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) may be required

Experience & Education

  • One (1) year of children and youth group program supervision or administration experience with a related Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Must be able to work extended hours, often with short notice. Extended hours may include late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Position will be assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions.
