As a defense contractor, there are specific programs requiring a certain level of security clearance and special access for assigned staff. The selected candidate will be required to secure these accesses. Not being able to secure the Interim Secret Security Clearance needed for this position may result in an offer of employment being rescinded.

Job Description:
The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) designs and develops electronics and test equipment for RF, EW, Comms and EO sensors. The Center provides engineering, technology development, and manufacturing support for an extensive line of airborne, ground, and space-based systems.

As a Mechanical Engineer II, you may be involved with some of the following activities:

  • Reviewing material and components specifications for process improvement; Perform failure analysis and testing on components and materials.
  • Conduct modeling and analysis on fixtures and structures. The analysis tasks may include evaluating RF or EO/IR hardware designs for static and dynamic strength, fatigue, durability, stiffness, thermo-elastic behavior, and other system and sub-system level performance metrics.
  • Conduct Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis on drawings; Develop drawings and documentation packages for mechanical, electro-mechanical and/or optical-mechanical assemblies. Identify process and design improvements to lower costs and cycle times; Support design and development efforts.

You will learn frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, concepts and techniques. You will be expected to provide recommendations to a variety of technical problems of appropriate scope and complexity, working under general supervision. You should expect to be immersed in a fast-paced, team-based, and challenging technical environment where an individual with talent and initiative can stand out and thrive.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in developing mechanical designs and documentation packages for mechanical, electro-mechanical, optical-mechanical and/or RF electronic systems
  • Experience with programming with tools such as C and Matlab
  • Experience with PTC CREO (Pro/Engineer) or other modeling and analysis tools
  • Experience with M/S Office Tools, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Laboratory test experience to include use of control software such as LabVIEW, MathWorks, or similar tool
  • Experience with developing conceptual designs
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in mechanical engineering design and product support
  • Experience developing and implementing materials and processes, process improvements, and equipment selection using established statistical process control techniques, experimental designs, material analysis, and mechanical design analysis.
  • Experience in design assembly and integration of mechanical, electro-mechanical, optical-mechanical and/or RF electronic systems
  • Ability to evaluate materials, components, equipment and processes (including qualification, acceptance testing, and specification development) and interface with key internal and external customers/suppliers to resolve technical issues
  • Ability to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical, chemical, or material engineering fields and general knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis for drawings
  • Ability to develop conceptual designs in support of new business initiatives
  • Working knowledge of Thermal and Structural analysis tools.
  • Be a hands on person with ability to work with production equipment
  • Strong six sigma and SPC knowledge and experience
  • Experience working closely with supply chain management and mission assurance and across multiple cross functional teams
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying)

Required Education (including major): Must have a MS / MA with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Material Engineering, Physics, or other related field by Summer 2019 or have graduated within 18 months prior to start date.
