Job Description:
Raytheon seeks an experienced professional Mechanical Engineer/Structural Analyst committed to providing top-quality electronics products for the nation’s defense, in a cooperative and collaborative work environment.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer II will conduct structural analysis for electronic systems primarily related to antenna products at multiple levels of maturity (IRAD, CRAD, development, and production), often as a part of a larger design/analysis team. He/she will also review the structural analysis products of others, including junior analysts and external suppliers. He/she will collaborate with the analysis team to help and direct analysis activities and facilitate learning. Analysis tasks will typically involve electronics hardware and mounting designs for static and dynamic strength, stiffness, fatigue cracking, thermoelastic behavior, and damage tolerance. Analysis and design support of aircraft primary and secondary structure is also required, and other analysis techniques will be learned as needed. Analysis support will be provided through all phases of the program life-cycle, from proposal, to conceptual design/requirements derivation, to PDR/CDR, and build/test/delivery. ABAQUS/CAE will be the finite-element code that is used. The position also requires developing and understanding structural requirements for electronic systems and the structures to support them. The Senior Mechanical Engineer II will work to influence the efficiency and suitability of the structural design and will support internal design reviews.

Required Skills:

  • 6+ years of experience performing structural analysis and a BSME or equivalent degree or 4+ years and an MSME or equivalent degree or 2+ years and a PhD
  • Familiarity with commercial Finite Element Analysis codes, with a strong preference for ABAQUS/CAE, but NASTRAN/PATRAN, ANSYS, or similar may be considered
  • Experience with using hand-calculations for structural analysis
  • Knowledge of commercial CAD software, such as Creo, SolidWorks, or Unigraphics
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with structural analysis of electronics assemblies
  • Experience with structural analysis of new airframe design or modifications to existing design (primary and/or secondary structure)
  • Experience with damage tolerance, crack propagation analysis and associated tools (e.g. NASGRO or AFGROW)
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with ability to discuss technical material with others in a teaming environment
  • Ability to solve difficult problems by applying basic scientific principles, theories and concepts
  • Occasional travel is required
  • Team leadership / Technical leadership experience
  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings and specifications, including understanding of GD&T
  • Programming experience in Matlab, Python, C++, or Visual Basic
  • Thermal analysis experience

Required Education: Must have a B.S. or higher from an ABET accredited university with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other related field

Desired Education: M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university
