HWEC seeks a motivated Optical Designer/Analyst willing to apply their knowledge and experience in optical design, analysis, integration and test to the development of advanced optical imaging telescopes, spectrometers, sensors, and special test equipment. Tasks will involve innovative optical design for new space and airborne programs with supporting tolerance and alignment simulation. Other supporting responsibilities may include stray light analysis, image simulation, radiometry, and analyzing impact of supplier non-conformances throughout the length of the program. This position involves working in a collaborative environment, at times contributing to multiple programs as a technical resource, and providing leadership and optical oversight where required. This engineer must be able to own all aspects of the optical design.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience with either CodeV or Zemax

  • Experience modeling alignment procedures of optical systems
  • Experience with both reflective and refractive optical systems
  • Experience working with optical fabrication suppliers
  • Ability to present work in a group setting to management and customers
  • Self-starter, ability to execute job assignments with minimal supervision
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

  • Must have ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance

Desired Skills:
  • Current Secret clearance preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Experience with non-sequential raytrace tools (FRED preferred)
  • Experience with Matlab for processing data and controlling lab equipment
  • Hands on lab experience aligning reflective and refractive optical systems
  • Familiar with hands-on laboratory optical alignment and measurement equipment
  • Ability to obtain higher level clearances
  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace

Required Education:
BS in Optics, Physics or Engineering

Desired Education:
MS or PhD in Optics, Physics or Engineering with emphasis in Optics

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs the candidate to be able to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

This position requires a U.S. person or the ability to obtain an Export Authorization from the appropriate government agency for non-U.S. persons.
