SAIC is seeking a Java Developer with experience in building high-performing, scalable, enterprise- grade applications to join other technical professionals in SAIC’S contract in support of the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB).   The FRTIB administers the Thrift Savings Plan which provides Federal employees the opportunity to save for retirement.  FRTIB manages retirement assets for more than 4.5 million participants worldwide.  The position is primarily a developer position with the following responsibilities:

  • Java developer responsibilities including designing, developing, testing and documenting high-volume, low-latency applications for mission-critical systems, adhering to software engineering best practices

  • Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle from initial requirements gathering through production support

  • Write well- designed, testable, efficient and secure code

  • Ensure designs and coding meet functional and technical requirements

  • Document and maintain source code in accordance with program procedures for source code control

  • Perform database analysis and assist with database design

  • Prepare software builds and releases

  • Conduct unit testing, verify system test cases/scripts, and support investigation and resolution of system test issues

  • support service desk ticket processing to troubleshoot and resolve reported problems in a timely manner

  • Support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and technologies and presenting those for architectural review 


 Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant work experience required

  • 9 years experience designing and developing web based applications in a Java environment

  • Significant knowledge of Java and JEE internals (classloading, memory management, transaction management, etc.)

  • JSP experience

  • Experience in developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (JSF, Spring MVC, etc.)

  • Must be proficient with Java build automation tools such as maven and ant.

  • Knowledge of RDBMS (experience designing tables, writing stored procedures, optimizing queries, etc.) is highly desired

  • Familiarity with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) highly desired

  • Experience with software management and automation tools such as GIT, Ansible, and Docker is a plus

  • Development for a cloud platform is desired

  • Experience within a Dev/Ops environment is desired

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies is desired

  • Strong analysis and design skills

  • Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Strong organizational, written, verbal and presentation skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Demonstrated ability to fully document technical specifications and related systems level documentation

  • Candidate must have a passion for learning new technologies and implementation methods.

  • Prior knowledge in pension/retirement system implementation a plus.

  • Experience with OmniPlus is a strong plus
