Senior Guidance Design and Performance Analysis Engineer
The Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Center at Raytheon Missile Systems (RMS) in Tucson, AZ, has several positions available in the area of guidance design and performance analysis. The Senior Systems Engineer II (GNC Engineer) is responsible for development and implementation of missile guidance algorithms and software, modeling and simulation of GNC hardware/software components, hardware/software integration testing, and flight performance analysis. The individual will work as a part of an Integrated Product Team structure guiding the successful completion of major programs. In this role, the engineer will interact with senior subject matter experts for advice and will represent the program as a technical contact for guidance system development and overall system performance analysis.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Develop and implement missile guidance algorithms and software
Design state estimation and guidance sensor fusion algorithms
Implement vehicle kinematic models in simulation
Analyze and optimize missile performance in simulation, laboratory, and flight testing
Resolve GNC system anomalies observed in simulation or test environments
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment. Required Education, Skills and Experience:
BS degree from an ABET accredited institution in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Strong academic and analytical background with course work and independent research that includes a combination of: dynamics, control systems, estimation theory, or signal processing.
Six (6) years of applied work experience related to guidance, navigation, and control. (Four years with a MS degree or two years of experience with a Ph.D.)
Applied work experience with six degree of freedom (6-DOF) simulation environments.
Applied work experience with MATLAB and higher order programming languages, such as C or C++.
Must have an existing or the ability to obtain a Department of Defense issue Secret security clearance.
Must be available for travel to support customer/supplier meetings and/or provide on-site flight test support.
Must be willing to relocate to Tucson, AZ (comprehensive relocation package available)
Desired Education, Skills and Experience:
Masters or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge of optimal guidance theory, trajectory shaping, analysis of random processes, and Kalman filter design.
Experience with millimeter wave radar, electro-optical/infrared imaging, or semi-active laser seekers, including experience with airborne sensor tracking and integration with guidance algorithms.
Knowledge of the related disciplines of Navigation, Control Systems, and Aerodynamics.
Experience with vehicle performance analysis by simulation, ground, and flight test including verification and validation methods.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and across engineering disciplines.
