Job Description:

Performs Systems Engineering activities related to Cable Plant activities supporting the NASA Mission Network. This includes the implementation of both fiber and copper cabling for MOVE, voice, data, and video services. Information Technology or Engineering including: concept of operations formulation, requirements definition, analysis and engineering, system architecting, system analysis and design, interface and data architectures, validation and verification, systems integration, system & op. performance analysis, Lifecycle cost analysis & estimation, decision analysis and physical configuration analysis (PCA) . Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software or engineering specifications. Provides specific, detailed information for selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Potential daily activities include but are not limited to:

Performing certification testing on Fiber and Copper Cables

Terminating Fiber Optic Cables

-
Installation and troubleshooting of analog lines and VoIP phones

-
Pulling inside plant cabling from telecom room to inner offices

-
Termination of copper cables using terminal types to include 110, 66M and Central Office distribution frame

-
Cross connect of circuits on outside copper plant cables having pair counts ranging from 25 to 900 pairs

-
Cross connect of circuits on fiber optic outside plant cables having counts ranging from 4 to 864 strands

-
Testing of fiber optic cables to include the use of power meters and optical time domain reflectometers

-
Termination of fiber optic cabling using termination methods such as Fusion Splice Pigtails and Splice on Connectors

-
Monitoring and responding to online ticketing system for work orders and incidents

-
Working with subcontractors and providing materials and support for larger projects

Qualifications:
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and 0 years related experience.

Education and Experience:

-
Bachelor's degree or equivalent cable plant experience preferred.

Clearance Requirement:

-
Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Required Skills:

-
Basic troubleshooting skills

-
Ability to identify different colors and learn telecom color codes

-
Communication skills with the ability to successfully collaborate with other members of the team

-
Lifting of heavy objects of 50 pounds or more

-
Proficiency and the ability to distinguish between single mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables

Desired Skills:

-
Experience with fiber optic cable fusion-splicing techniques is preferred

-
Basic Network troubleshooting skills

-
Ability to operate cable trailers, forklift, and other bulk cable handling equipment

-
Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

Basic working knowledge of Local Area Networks

-
Knowledge of industry standard cable specifications

-
Technical writing skills to support developing documentation to be used by the group for operation and maintenance needs.

Ability to generate Weekly/Monthly reports
