Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required to be obtained within 6 months at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Advanced Manufacturing Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies for the MK6 Guidance System.
Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.
Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
Performs detailed analysis of the ability to produce electrical or mechanical subsystems.
Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
Implements and analyzes manufacturing engineering plans and projects.
Develops manufacturing engineering templates, plans and strategies for specific products and processes.
Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees.
Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects.
Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups.
Works under limited direction.
Contact with project leaders and other professionals within Engineering and Operations departments, and with project teams across the company.
Frequent contact with external customers.
Travel may be required.
Security clearance required.
Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems.
Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause significant delays or require the substantial expenditure of resources.
Leads quality initiatives using six sigma methodology to determine extent of non-conformance root cause, and corrective action.
Documents procedures, process qualifications, work instructions, shop aids, routings, etc.
Defines and documents equipment calibration requirements.
Identifies training for production related activities.
Provides solutions to vendor issues as required.
Develops floor layouts.
