Job Description:

An opportunity exists for a Senior Linux Kickstart Software Engineer within the Missile Defense Radar Software Department in Woburn, Massachusetts to support our X-Band Radar software product line.
The Missile Defense Radar Software Department’s mission is to provide world class Missile Defense and Surveillance Radar Software to be used in radar systems deployed on land and sea. Our software teams employ an AGILE Scrum process to rapidly design, code, and integrate capabilities on a continuous basis into a mature solution for our customers. We strive for technical excellence by drawing upon a diverse workforce whose knowledge base covers the complete spectrum of modern computing languages and platforms.
This position requires a detail understanding of Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems, real-time kernel test and usage, RPM development, OS Configuration and tuning, and how to roll out these updates to multiple isolated, fielded locations. It requires high level design, software development, integration, and testing of real-time Radar software. The candidate should be familiar with Dell R720 or similar form factor, and RHEL 6 and 7.
The candidate will be responsible for design and implementation of changes resulting from operating system upgrades, including roadmaps for future hardware and kernels. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring quality real-time application design and system performance testing. Our radar software applications are developed using Ada, C++/C and Java programming languages running on a variety of computing platforms running Linux/HPUX/SOLARIS operating systems.
The candidate will be expected to be a key contributor for complex development tasks and be able to provide technical leadership in multiple areas of software engineering. This position requires understanding of real-time software design and the ability to recognize the performance implications associated with specific detail implementations. The candidate will require the ability to understand the “big picture” of the radar system and also be able to develop or review detail solutions at the source code level.

This position can be a Salary Grade G09 or Salary Grade G10 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and requirements for the position.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.


Required Skills: .

  • Minimum 6 yrs experience in all phases of software engineering
  • 6 years of experience with Ada, C++, or Java
  • 5 years Linux Configuration experience
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and/or 7
  • Software development experience in a DoD environment
  • ClearCase or equivalent configuration management tool experience
  • Experience at the Software architecture level
  • US citizenship is required as this position will require the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance within 1 year of start date.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience generating Kickstarts
  • Cybersecurity – incorporation of IAVAs and STIGS into operating system packages
  • Experience with DevOps and tools such as RPM Package Manager
  • Familiarity with the following SW Tools: Rational Apex, ClearCase, DOORS, iTracker, MATLAB
  • Experience on missile defense radars.
  • Experience in an Agile/SCRUM development environment
  • Strong Object-Oriented Design Knowledge
  • Existing clearance or ability to obtain one


Required Education:
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Software Engineering or related engineering discipline(Master's Degree preferred)
