Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field or equivalent experience is required.
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within 24 months of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
Performs design and development in such areas as mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, measurement, and use of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines and/or machines
Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
Provides design information for detailing packaging documentation

Carries out other tasks, not listed, assigned by supervisor
Travel may be required
Security clearance may be required

Clear understanding to perform all responsibilities associated with the position
Must be proficient with clear understanding modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and accompanying drawings
Grasps and applies new information quickly
Handles more complex assignments
Shows initiative on assignments, and professionally executes projects with little direction

Work closely with Systems engineers to perform mechanical design, electronic packaging and analysis for new design projects
Experience with CREO 3 and ANSYS suite of analysis tools, specifically for structural, thermal and airflow analysis is desired.
Work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers and manufacturing engineers to brainstorm solutions, challenge designs and actively participate in design reviews.
3D CAD experience (Pro/E CREO 3, SolidWorks)
Technical drawing knowledge: drawing standards, tolerancing, GD&T (Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
Structural analysis: including FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
Thermal Analysis (ANSYS IcePAK)
Cable Harness System (Mentor Graphics) experience is required
TeamCenter Workflow process experience
