Position Summary

This position reports directly to the Tax Director.  The tax manager will be responsible for developing and establishing direct and indirect tax processes for the entire C&J Energy Services consolidated group. The tax manager oversees tax planning by interpreting tax regulations. The tax manager also completes all appropriate tax returns and ensures compliance with relevant IRS regulations. The tax manager also advises on appropriate tax strategies for organizations. The manager will also mentor, supervise and delegate duties to other tax employees. Typical requirements are BSc. in Accounting/Finance, Masters in Taxation (Preferred) and five (5) years experience Oil and Gas Industry (Preferred).

Key Accountabilities

  • Prepare, review, organize and consult on the quarterly and yearly income tax provision as required by ASC 740 including calculations of deferred tax assets/liabilities, valuation allowance, annual effective tax rate, uncertain tax positions, income tax receivables/payables, journal entries and drafting of all required tax related SEC disclosures.
  • Assist with required quarterly and annual SOX controls for direct and indirect tax processes.
  • Prepare, review, organize and consult on U.S. federal and state income/franchise tax returns for a corporate consolidated group.
  • Review and provide guidance on complex federal and state consolidated income and franchise tax issues and filings.
  • Review, organize and consult on property tax returns, notices, audits and payments
  • Analyze changes to U.S. federal and state income and franchise tax statutes, regulations, rulings and court cases for their impact on C&J Energy Services; develop, coordinate and implement strategies to ensure compliance.
  • Analyze various transactions and/or company structures to identify and recommend opportunities for income/franchise tax savings and/or minimize tax liabilities.
  • Analysis of merger & acquisition transactions including review of purchase and sale agreements, determination of tax impacts and development of recommendations to protect C&J Energy Services’s interests.
  • Lead and/or assist with U.S. federal or state income and franchise tax audits including responding to notices, organizing information pursuant to data requests, development of support for C&J Energy Services’s position and analysis of taxing authority’s position and development of arguments for the appeals process if necessary.
  • Monitor tax deadlines and maintain tax calendar to ensure accurate and timely filings of U.S. federal and state income/franchise tax payments and returns.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff, as the needs of the department adjust to company growth.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience with ASC 740

Experience preparing and reviewing complex U.S. federal and state income/franchise tax returns
