Job Description:
The Whole Life Systems Engineering (WLSE) Directorate and the Standard Missile 3 Program are seeking a strong dynamic leader to serve as the SM-3 Sustainment Lead Engineer (Sr Principal Systems Engineer). The Sustainment lead Engineer will report functionally to the Whole Life Systems Engineering Directorate/ Mission Support Department and programmatically to the SM-3 Chief Engineers office and the Sustainment Program Manager to provide technical guidance as part of the Sustainment Execution Leadership Team. This position will be the ME, PTEs and REAs primary point of contact for questions and/or issues related to the SM-3 Missile and will be responsible for ensuring that each recertification unit delivered to the customer meets all allocated requirements in accordance with the technical data package.

This position will be located in Huntsville Alabama, but will require both domestic and international travel.

As the Sustainment Lead Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • The SLE shall serve as the Sustainment Execution Leadership Team (aka To5) member.
  • The SLE shall interface with the customer to discuss sustainment technical issues as required.
  • The SLE shall be responsible for provided risk assessment of technical issues to the SM-3 CE.
  • The SLE shall interact, as required, with the Manufacturing MEs, PTEs, Engineering IPT Leads, and REAs responsible for the product. This interaction shall include but not be limited to: review of test data, assistance in failure investigations; disposition of QNs/DPDs, liaison between the relevant teams.
  • The SLE shall provide requirement interpretation and design intent of the SM-3 Missile.
  • The SLE shall be responsible for monitoring and help coordinating changes to the hardware/software configuration.
  • The SLE shall be responsible for help to facilitate and coordinate change paper with the Engineering System’s Team.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Required Skills:
  • A minimum of 10 years of Systems Engineering experience
  • Existing DoD Secret Clearance
  • Leadership experience in an engineering organization
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Desired Skills:
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Logistics Sciences
  • SM3 and/or Missile Defense Agency (MDA) experience
  • Effective task leadership, oral and written communication skills, including ability to conduct briefings with internal and external representatives
  • Ability to lead in a multi-tasking dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, innovative, and strategic
  • Results driven and detail oriented
  • Ability to lead in a multi-tasking dynamic environment

Required Education (including Major):
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM); ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement.
