Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Engineer, Orlando FL
Job ID: 460477BR
Date posted: Nov. 08, 2018
Program: TOAR and GNC Engineers
Description:Seeking a Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) engineer to develop flight vehicle models and manage an integrated flight simulation (IFS). Some of the duties include developing and/or integrating models of flight environment, sensors, mass properties and aerodynamics. They will also be responsible for integrating algorithms for flight controls guidance and navigation as well as launch sequence and target tracking. The candidate should understand basic flight mechanics and equations of motion governing a six degree of freedom (6DOF) flight simulation. This integrated flight simulation (IFS) will include truth models as well as representative flight software and statistical error sources used for Monte-Carlo simulation runs. The candidate will be responsible for pre-flight performance prediction simulation runs as well as post-flight reconstruction including model verification and validation with collected flight test data.
The candidate should have strong problem-solving skills and be able to identify and correct any unexplained artifacts in the simulation results or flight test data. Strong analytical and math skills are required specifically in the areas of controls, state dynamic equations, linear algebra and statistics. Experience with object-oriented programming in C++ is required. Experience developing flight controls and or target tracking algorithms is highly desired.
Candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform the following Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) assignments:
Perform Missile 6DOF simulation design and analysis and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) design and simulation analysis.
Develop and analyze guidance, navigation and autopilot algorithms.
Design target tracking systems which generally include target state estimation and target/detection association.
Demonstrate experience with optimal state estimation filters such as KALMAN and Extended KALMAN filter (EKF).
Perform design and analyses of terrestrial navigation and navigation state error estimation.
Contribute to the definition of an operational flight program (OFP) with integrated high fidelity 6DOF simulations.
Support preflight system performance assessment and post flight verification analyses.
Demonstrate strong math skills in the areas of linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformation.
Demonstrate mastery of MATLAB and C/C++ programming.
Currently holds a Secret clearance with a background investigation within the last 5 years.
Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) simulation experience is desired.
Flight software integration and verification experience is also a plus.
Experience with Embedded Software, RF/EO knowledge, and experience programming in FORTRAN is also a plus.
