Job Description:

 

  • Senior editor/technical writer to draft technical papers and edit, revise and format staff action packages, publications and supporting documentation prepared by senior policy analysts for the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs.
  • Position requires ability to edit for adherence to executive level unique writing style employing OSD established format, punctuation and the proper use of military terminology.
  • This position requires conversion of the documents to various electronic media for distribution purposes
  • Candidate will work in the Pentagon with a majority of effort supporting documentation preparation and technical writing supporting national oversight bodies to include the Nuclear Weapons Council, the Nuclear Deterrent Enterprise Risk Group and the Serious Incident Response Council.
  • Reports from these bodies are addressed to the President, Congress and leaders across the interagency.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

 

  • The successful candidate will demonstrate through career experience the ability to draft for senior policy decision makers technical documents on highly classified and complex scientific, engineering and technical topics/subjects.
  • The successful candidate has an in-depth knowledge of editorial principles and techniques and proficiency in MS Word and Adobe Acrobat.
  • The successful candidate has OSD working experience with knowledge of DoD processes and ‘how the government works’.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent attention to detail, the ability to work as part of a team, and possess a Top Secret security clearance.
  • The successful candidate must be eligible for SCI adjudication.
  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific, engineering or technical field with a minor in English, technical writing, or similar field is required.
  • A master’s degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years related experience with a bachelors degree.
  • 8+ years if candidate has a masters degree.

DESIRED:

  • A comprehensive working knowledge of DOD organizations and functions is a strong plus.
  • Recent Department of Defense experience is a major plus.
