Chemicals Process Manager
Position Description/Job Responsibilities
Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Responsible for study, design, and specification and services related to process plants such as ammonia, ethylene, mineral processing, specialty chemicals, refined products, oil and gas production, forest products and water. Responsible for heat and material balance, the development of process flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, system design parameters, and design or rating of equipment and apparatus such as heat exchangers, vessels, reactors, etc.
Under broad direction, supervises and leads a group of engineers. Sets the technical standards and procedures of a group of engineers and designers. Conducts various aspects of performance management such as performance appraisal or counseling of employees with behavior or technical performance problems and assists in the interviewing, hiring, and assignment of new personnel in the discipline. Job role is responsible for a measurable asset such as an assigned staff and budget. Administrative or supervisory responsibilities at this level include tactical responsibility for supervising engineers on all projects requiring this discipline.
The candidate should have demonstrated a high level of initiative, innovation and have the ability to analyze and provide design solutions and technology improvements. Operations and field troubleshooting experience will also be highly desirable.
Must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering and a minimum of twenty (25) years of experience in executing projects covering major chemicals technologies (methanol, alpha olefins, aromatics, aniline, polyethylene, polypropylene, etc.).
At least ten of those years must be in a process manager role with a successful history of project execution and client satisfaction. Incumbents at this level will usually hold a certification as a Licensed/Chartered Professional Engineer.
