The VSL will manage and lead a production organization of between 50-100 employees engaged in the assembly and test of electronic and/or mechanical products. They will take on full leadership and management accountability for the safety, quality, schedule, and cost performance of a multi-cell/multi-shift operation. It is imperative the VSL have a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the production organization concerned with the assembly and processing operations including a thorough understanding of manufacturing related policies and procedures, and quality and customer requirements.

This key role requires daily interaction with other functions to maintain and meet organizational goals and objectives. These groups include: technical support, manufacturing/test/design engineering, facilities, production control, finance and multiple internal customers. Achieving/exceeding safety, quality, delivery, cost goals and identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities using six sigma and lean methodologies are critical performance criteria for this position.

The VSL will be responsible for all aspects of the value stream being led. This includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Must use metrics to manage execution of the MRP plan while achieving cost and quality requirements
  • Working with other manufacturing facilities and industry to benchmark manufacturing best practices and implement them in the value stream
  • Implement Raytheon Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing
  • Must be able to perform strategic planning, develop relationships and achieve buy-in from all relevant parties for the strategy and vision for the value stream
  • Leader in the creation of the current and future state value stream maps and the implementation plan for getting from present to future
  • Will control cost through effective utilization of labor, proper maintenance of equipment, enforcement of safety rules, good housekeeping and reduction of scrap, waste and spoilage
  • Must be able to create and maintain working relationships with the functional leaders supplying the employees for the value stream
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with other departments. Will recommend changes in product design, tooling and manufacturing methods to improve production
  • Provide key input for performance development and salary planning. This includes the functional employees assigned to the value stream
  • Must insure all employees are treated fairly and consistently. This will require a thorough understanding of Company policies and procedures, rules of conduct, the current collective bargaining agreement and the proper use of discretion in the application of these.
  • Will be required to implement corrective actions where necessary and may include disciplinary matters up to and including terminations
  • Develop, mentor, and training all subordinate employees and/or junior level Manufacturing supervisors
  • Assures through contacts with outside departments, that proper inventory balances are maintained, that quality is within acceptable standards and that production goals are met
  • Is responsible for understanding and utilizing business system tools
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Skills:
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, operations, or engineering
  • Proven capability to analyze and use metrics and to convey these metrics in an intelligible manner to team, leadership and other relevant parties
  • Manufacturing or industrial engineering and supervisory experience in the aerospace/defense industry
  • Strategic thinker who has demonstrated ability to create and execute
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and partner with colleagues as well as internal and external customers
  • Flexible, open minded, and able to think creatively to solve complex operational issues while maintaining open communications and a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to accomplish tasks through successful leadership and supervision of exempt, non-exempt and bargaining unit employees
  • Experience utilizing lean manufacturing concepts with a proven track record of lean or six sigma project implementation
  • Strong knowledge of Operations and Engineering processes and technology
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with a focus on inclusiveness, collaboration, talent development
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), presentation and influencing skills
  • Ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems

Desired Skills:
  • Demonstrated cost, schedule and technical management experience
  • Solid business acumen (experience in managing financials, executing to EACs)
  • Proven track record of successful execution and completion of complex tasks

  • High level of computer literacy / confidence and skill working with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and familiarity with Raytheon systems (VM, SAP, PDM)
