National Grid is hiring a Senior SCADA Engineer in Waltham, MA.
This position is responsible for the definition, testing, and production implementation of a distribution specific SCADA system (DSCADA). The DSCADA system will be the centralized hub for the monitoring and control of the distribution electrical grid. This position will work closely with the advanced distribution management system (ADMS) engineers and SMEs to properly design and configure real time data interfaces to support advanced application functionality such as unbalanced load flow, fault location, fault location isolation and service restoration (FLISR), and volt-var optimization (VVO).
Post implementation support of DSCADA will include troubleshooting of data acquisition issues, database updating, and one-line diagram development. Support will also include the day-to-day needs of Control Center Operations and other end users. It is a requirement that supporting the SCADA real-time operations will include off hours support as part of an on-call rotation. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and team work.
Provide day-to-day development and support of distribution specific National Grid SCADA system.
Need an enthusiastic individual to coordinate with field personnel to update the SCADA database and commission field equipment.
Actively participate in support and troubleshooting problems in all aspects of the SCADA system, and specifically data acquisition issues including:
Windows Servers running vendor supplied communication software.
Communication circuits using analog, digital (DDS), frame relay, T1, fiber, or MPLS.
Communications with surround utilities.
Actively update and maintain the annual disaster recovery plans in the SCADA database.
Windows Active Directory and Linux administration.
Participate in on-call rotation as required to support Control Center Operations and maintenance of the SCADA system during off hours.
Contribute to a program of work, appropriately assessed, designed, planned, resourced and scheduled in a timely and cost effective manner to deliver intelligent grid tools in-line with vision, emerging standards and trends, and policies.
Build and nurture relationships with industry peers and other external industry influencers to keep abreast of technical innovations and their potential benefits.
Knowledge of electrical distribution circuit maps and hierarchy of electrical distribution circuits
Domain / Industry Knowledge surrounding control room software platforms is a plus
Knowledgeable of system integration issues
Attends industry related conferences / events
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science or other technical discipline from an accredited school.
Experience with system specification and implementation involving working with SCADA vendors.
Basic understanding and troubleshooting of Windows, Linux, and SQL environments.
Basic understanding of electrical circuits and diagrams.
Knowledge of the NERC CIP 001 – 014 Cyber Security Standards and requirements.
Working knowledge of Oracle and SQL.
Knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
Candidate should have a basic understanding of networking infrastructure and protocols including Routers, Switches, Hubs, TCP/IP, Firewalls and SNMP.
Practices and demonstrates the ability to create new concepts or solutions that are not always obvious to others.
