Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) in Marlborough, MA is seeking a Database Architect to support the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) program office. As the Database Architect for the STARS program, the selected candidate will be responsible for managing various existing databases currently in use and work to consolidate and improve the status quo. The selected candidate will need to be able to adapt in a dynamic work environment and have the proven ability to independently push actions to closure.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis,
  • Project long-range requirements for database administration and design,
  • Responsible for developing a database structure that fits into the overall architecture of the system under development and has to make trades among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security and domain controls,
  • Support databases from the front end of the lifecycle-requirements through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC),
  • Develop requirements from a project’s inception to its conclusion for a particular business and Information Technology (IT) subject matter area (i.e., simple to complex systems),
  • Assist with recommendations for, and analysis and evaluation of systems improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts,
  • Translate a set of requirements and data into a usable document by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros; updates existing queries, creates new ones to manipulate data into a master file; and builds complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity and database storage and retrieval using Cloud methodologies,
  • Responsible for maintaining (including updates) all training material as the tools change and perform all training to new users and refreshers for existing users when new/updated features are rolled out.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive working knowledge in use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), the internet, and other internal applications necessary to complete tasks
  • Hands-on experience with architecting and automated provisioning, configuration management for infrastructure and applications
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills and excellent focus on/to detail is a must
  • Ability to adapt to changing work requirements and manage priorities per tasks
  • Professional demeanor, good interpersonal skills, and ability to excel in a high-paced multi- tasked environment
  • Ability to act independently, prioritize tasks, and manage to schedule
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written modes, and be able to author and present subject specific presentations
  • Experience establishing, implementing, and delivering using Agile practices
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task with minimal direction
  • Demonstrated practical experience with data migration from legacy systems to central repositories
  • Must exhibit good time management skills, independent decision making capability; focus on customer service
  • Ability to work with the other technical members of the team to administer and support the overall database and applications environment
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines to support timeline goals

Desired Skills:

  • System Administrator experience
  • Hands-on experience with envisioning, designing, building and managing release systems, code merging and promotion, and CI/CD workflows and tools
  • Experience with SQL database scripting
  • Computing Environment certifications to include Windows and or Linux
  • Experience with VMware virtualization
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels, written and oral
  • Provide technical leadership through innovation and strategic planning that aligns with customer’s requirements
  • Experience successfully and effectively interacting with internal and external customers
  • Previous experience working in sharing forums or working groups

Required Education:

  • Bachelor Degree with 5+ year’s relevant and recent experience
  • Experience can be substituted in lieu of a degree and will be determined on a case by case basis, but must meet minimum experience requirement of 5 years.
